hey is the Levitation hard to learn or easy ?

Well well, you are asking a very hard question.
You should go for the magic that interest you, not for the magic you would like to know the secrets of. It's very typical that newbies like levitation, and I always wonder why.... and I have concluded that it must be because they just want to know how to do it, not because of the magic interest of it. So, if you love cards and coins, then get yourself a set of books or dvds that teach you the basics...

you mean buying books or dvds ??? but i thought of buying the item is more importen...

maybe you are right magic never interest me but just wanted to know how to do it

Compare the costs - Books/DVDs can contain twenty or so tricks with full instructions. Buying a prop based trick usually only gets you one or two variations. If you like card tricks then a couple of decks of decent cards plus appropriate books/DVDs will keep you occupied for days on end! It will also give you chance to assess what type of magic suits you best and minimise the inevitable piles of expensive and unused props!

I agree with mandrake. I would suggest personally that you start with a nice dvd on basic card magic. That way you get alot of bang for your buck and can pretty much start impressing people off the bat. (Good for confidence building.) For this i would goto

Now they have alot more than just card tricks. So just peruse the site and read the effects and see what interests you. But I would highly suggest that if you are going for the more specific tricks or gag/prop type tricks that you search this forum or similar forums looking for a review before buying it. (This leads to alot of problems for people new to magic.) Also, I highly suggest that if you get a trick and it looks stupid, or you think it would never work or fool anyone... do the trick FIRST before making such a decision. You will notice that, if you show someone a trick, and they dont know how it is done they will be quite impressed. But the second you tell them how they will pretty much gain the impression of "Oh well pft" like you do when you feel it is not a great trick. You know why? Because knowhing how a trick is done is not what makes it impressive, so you cannot judge how good it is by knowing how it is done.

Thats my rant.

By the way, if you just want to know how it is done, why not learn how it is done and do it anyway. That way you satisfy your need to know and you can give people a smile along the way.

I'd personally keep away from Ellusionist if you're just starting out as they may sell items that are a bit too advanced and not varied enough for a beginner. Penguin and magictricks.co.uk are ideal places to start and both have beginners sections.

I agree with your disagreement! I keep dipping into the various books in my collection and each time it seems as though there's something suddenly more relevant and useful in them than the last time I dipped in. Some of the books are years old yet they still have something fresh to offer.

What suits you. But my experince in theatre taught me that the most important lesson is humility. You are only as good as your last performance. And it is performance that matters. But ... you wish to learn magic ... do what suits you and then go and perform ... because without an audience you are just another talented bedroom performer. Make no mistake, it's scarey! But the rewards of a good performance are priceless.

hey all the coin and card flying is = ellusionist, am i right ?erm.. ellusionist magic trick will make ppl more shock than playing card trick.

There are many places where you can buy all this, not just Ellusionist. Do a Google search for Magic Shops, Magic Suppliers, or something like that and see how many there are - you'll be surprised at the choice!

yeah, when i first started off, i learned the pass from ellusionist before they taught me the DL. at least i can do the pass now

I will always recommend Penguin Magic's Born to Perform Card Magic DVD. If you do a search on the forum you will find many many posts on it so have a look.

It really is a great DVD, and does start right at the beginnings and work its way up to a level where you can wow people with card tricks.
