I would like to know who inspired any of you to do magic or is just a natural talent?

I'd been using self workers for many years that I'd picked up along the way. When I saw my very first 'real' magician who used slieght of hand etc. I was so impressed that I just had to learn myself. I had a chat with him afterwards and he just pointed me in the right direction in terms of books and where to get them from.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Throughout my childhood I was subjected to The Paul Daniels Magic Show (in the early 80's) From the first show I was hooked. I got my first PD magic set at the age of three and have not looked back since.
I also remember the David Copperfield specials having some influence but I think Paul has to be the main man - He was my idol !

Paul Daniels also started me, but not by watching him, but by those magic sets!!!! I must have had about 5 different sets with all the same tricks in them!

A smooth talking sales director, who I used to work with. Completely useless at his job, but very good (at least I thought of at the time!) at close up magic! He used to use it for getting meetings with prospective clients, and always used to get the ladies interested. I though "I want some of that!"

Many a friday afternoon spent in his office preparing sales presentations, or at least that is what the MD thought! when we actually had one on one learning sessions! Funily enough, I bumped into him the other month, and I blew him away with some card effects. I learnt a lot from him, but in his own words, "Could show him a thing or two now!" A nice feeling.

Nice bloke, but a complete swinger. Invites me and my other half for dinner parties around his house and to bring our swimming (or should that be swinging?) outfits so we can all end up in his hot tub! Have not been brave enough yet!

Blimey, he might even read this so I will call him by his nickname... "The Silver Fox!"

I have a deep interest in the spirtual side of things and was typing in the name of a book I was looking for into a certain auction site and up popped the dispearing penny trick and as it was cheap I bought it and that was started my interest.

Can't remeber who it was, but a magician in a show in Blackpool back in the 1950's hooked me on magic. He made a cage with a budgie in it disappear and I was so gobsmacked I asked my dad really loud "where did it go"?

It took me over 40 years to move from spectator to practitioner but when I did I was inspired by wanting my grand children to feel the same wonder. I bought a couple of Marvins Magic sets which had some good stuff in for small children but I really became a magic hero with them when I bought my first TT and silk. Granddad can really make things vanish!!

From there I got interested in sleights, found magic on the internet, caught CUPS and the rest is history as they say

That budgie cage trick sounds like the one and only Harry Blackstone Jr. to me. Did you ever see his floating lightbulb... absolutely stunning.

As for inspiration it's got to be my Grandad... ever since he reached behind my ear and pulled out 10p for me to buy some sweets with. I didn't want to spend it for ages as I was sure the coin was magical.

Got a Paul Daniels magic set, and a deck of cards, and that was me on the road to magic.

As for magicians that I find inspirational, I'd say Paul Daniels, Jerry Sadowitz, Alex Elmsley, Derren Brown, Paul Zenon and Penn & Teller.
