Rawlins - Jumping Gemini

Postby SirRawlins » Oct 30th, '05, 18:46

Hi Guys,

About time for my first video post i thought, i learned the Jumping Gemini routine after someone posted thier version, thanks to Mark C and Demitri for thier help.

I've only been a magi for a couple of months so be gentle, but give me pointers!

It's 10Mb WMV so might stream a little funny, try right clicking and 'Save Target As" its on my own dedicated host.

Very good!! Just slow it down a little bit because its a bit to fast to see on the video. I know you will see it better in real life, but thats just a tip.

Do you have any patter for it? PM if you don't.

ok a couple of quick points... firstly it was invented by Darwin Ortiz.

in the original version the first section just shows that the cards are all the same but was easy to follow.. this version just confused the hell out of me?.. dont get me wrong the actual handling of the cards was good but i lost track of which was meant to be the ace, personally id stick to the original version.

during the kings revalation try and speed up the first 2..just long enough for folks to realise that theyre kings but not long enough to register suits.. the last 2 you can take as long as you like over since they can be dropped face up

BUT having said that it was good technically.. but why is the video reversed?

Thanks for the pointers Mog,

I dont know why the video is reversed, i hadnt intended to, think my cam must be set to mirror or somthing.

I've never seen the origional, seen quite a few versions and each of them different. i'll have a look round and see if i can find it.

I do have a patter that makes it easier to follow where the Ace should be, but i have Mic problems at the moment so cant record it.

Thanks again guys,

Rob

Well done!

Mog - I can see where you're coming from, but I think with patter, the confusion wouldn't be there. I don't feel his deviation from the original handling is a problem, though. It still plays out nicely. I see what you're saying though - if you're not familiar with the effect, you can easily lose track of what's going on.

As for execution - your handling is very crisp. The only problem I see is with your gemini count for the kings. Your cards split a tiny bit when you turn, but this is something that will be fixed with further practice.

Overall, fantastic job. Once you have a mic, I'd LOVE to see it with the patter.

Very good work there.

Your moves are smooth, and very good. I like your doubles and triples, looks great. Make sure you dont "square" doubles etc, like when you product the second king (i think it was).

Keep it up, great work.

Just the camera angle i guess ... these are DEFINATLY poker sized deck. maybe it because your not used to viewing video on a normal screen ... with the PSP being 16:9 and all

Thanks for the points rune, there were a couple of glitches in the handling but i couldnt be bothered to tape it again.

I will have to be more carefull with the kings, i have tried a few ways of producing them, this one feels most natural but does need more work.

Well my widescreen PSP would have made them wider if anything, not narrower!

Are you sure those aren't a waddington's bridge deck from WH Smith?

They are from WHSmiths ... but dubbed as 'Luxury POKER Playing Cards, Casino Quality' ... they match up with my other poker sized cards.

Unless I'm mistaked the poker cards are the wider of the two types of cards? they are the type i have used and have always found them easier to use.

Maybe I'm making a mistake!?

No Poker are bigger than bridge.

Personally I'd use bikes or tallys - I prefer the finish.

At the end of the day though most specs in this country wouldn't know a bike or a tally from a mr bun the baker so it doesn't matter.

In the US it's different though - bikes are dominant.

Sure thing Nubbin .. these are most definatly Poker sized decks ... i didnt get the smiths ones through choice .... i purely couldnt get my hands on a deck of bikes apart from online ... not a magic shop for many-a-mile around here.

The smiths ones are reasonable .. nothing special but better than most.

Rob,

Nice video mate, your handling of the routine is very good. I saw the very slight handling error that Demitri pointed out, so I'll not make any more comments on it. He's the main man on this trick, taught me it superbly.

As for the cards I have some of those from WHSmiths too. Never used them for tricks though as I prefer the feel of Bikes and Tally's.

Anyway, keep up the good work... look forward to seeing more.
