The Raven? The Bat or the M5

Postby benthompson » Jun 8th, '03, 15:55

I have the urge to get a great close-up trick, i usually perform in short sleeves and have heard that the Raven is very hard to do in short sleeves. So i want your opinion on whether i should get the Raven, the Bat or save up and get the M5 (if i should get the M5- is it much better than the bat)

Thanks-help appreciated

I have both the Raven and the Bat. I am currently selling my bat if you are intrested. I have never performed the raven with short sleeves so i cant say. But it is impossible i think to use the bat for coin vanishes with short sleeves but it is good for pk affects like moving things on a table top etc. I would just get the Raven and use it with long sleeves.

The Raven? The Bat or the M5

Postby paul frost » Jun 8th, '03, 18:09

Hmmm.......well it really depends on what you want to achive I suppose....

All 3 are great effects but all different. I own all 3 and use then in different ways.

The Raven I own is the 'Reel-Raven' which can be used with short sleeves and is, in my opinion, better then the original one.

So I would decide on the effect you want and choose accordingly.

OK, I don't like disagreeing, but the Reel Raven is CERTAINLY not a better choice than the original Chazpro Raven.

I was GIVEN a Reel Raven by a disgruntled friend, who'd bought it on the strength that it was a 'Better Raven' - and he couldn't have been more wrong.

'Tis true, it can be hooked-up differently, so that it can be used without sleeves, but unfortunately, the poor quality and noisy mechanism make it almost unpractical to use it in a close-up situation.

And I'm not alone. A friend of mine in the States who's a magic dealer has stopped stocking these, due to the amount he's had returned through complaints over quality.

No matter where I've hooked this up, I would imagine that unless I cover myself in soundproof foam, I'd get caught.

The original Raven in swift, sleek and has a proven track record - 5 years??? So why on earth Chuck Leech felt it necessary to release this product is a mystery.

Advice: The Raven is the best bet for 'that one Blaine (cough) effect' - the Bat can perform the SAME effect, but also has other applications in the area of PK.

It should be noted that the Bat boasts that it can 'be used with lots of other objects' - but they DO have to have a certain quality that makes them an attractive candidate. There's a clue in there somewhere!

By all means buy a Reel Raven, but remember - you were warned.

It isn't too hard to use an ordinary raven in short sleeves either, it you do get it then get the raven video too.

for vanishes or certain change effects go for the raven

for pk effects go for the bat which is small and can do some pk effects (linking rings, stopping watches etc)OR go for the M5 which is bulkier but has a MUCH bigger scope of PK things that can be done

It is easy to use in a short sleeved shirt with buttons, but I'm not sure about an ordinary t-shirt.

Ok whell it depends on your style.

the m5 is a kinda heavy bulkyish magnett that is great for pk effects. Its ok for close up effects but if you do it a few times to the same group they might find out what your doing. if you are looking for a good vanish, this wouldnt be that great.

the bat is like the m5's little brother. where you get a smaller magnet, and its cheeper. although, you still cant get the vanish you are looking for.

The raven i would choose but get the reel raven. people might say that its loud. but i perform it in school or a party, somewhere where there is a lot of noise. and that can be used with a t-shirt on. its not even that loud. just gotta know how to use it right. :D

Well I only have the Chazpro raven, but here's my opinion anyway.

I've seen the M5 performed, and as soon as I saw the basic coin vanish performed.. I knew where it was and what it was.

Having said that, when used to make a match stand straight up on your palm.. it's brilliant.

People claim the M5 is more powerful than the bat, and it is more powerful than the raven, but for switches and vanishes the raven, imo, is the best.
