.... However, if Bikes were suddenly withdrawn from sale and all that was left were Tesco's own brand of bridge size plastic cards, then the one thing that we're all capable of doing is to adapt!.

Heaven’s forbid! Never in my worst nightmare has anything come to being as terrifying as this!

I think that there are a number of good reasons why bridge sized cards have the edge over poker sized ones. I think that there are three advantages to poker size.

1. Lots of good US brands come in this size as a preference and it might be hard to find them in bridge size. I've got a couple of decks of bridge size Bicycles, though.

2. Gimmicked cards are usually made in Bicycle poker. This is almost certainly a direct result of the strength of poker sized cards in the USA. It's a bigger country, a bigger market for magic (well, than the UK, maybe not the whole of Europe) and market forces dictate things.

3. It's easier to do stuff with bridge sized cards, if you've practised with poker sized ones than the other way round. Of course, if you almost never see poker sized cards, then what's the problem? You might be a little more limited if given a deck of Bikes, but there will be plenty that you can do anyway.

I still use poker size myself, mainly because of reason 2, even though I don't actually use many gimmicks.

i live in the US, and almost nobody uses bridge sized decks here (well, except for those bridge players)

the reason i use a poker sized deck, even though i have small hands, is that by being efficient with them i won't need to struggle with them if i go to someone's house and BORROW a deck.

since bridge cards are the plurality in england, perhaps then the reason you guys use them is the opposite we use our poker cards? you use them because everyone else uses them, and its easier ot borrow and looks normal.

or maybe us americans just have bigger hands (jk)
