bits of business

Postby Kevin Cann » Nov 3rd, '05, 20:13

Is anyone out there willing to give me any lines/gags/patter/stories around the following items (for adult/teenage audiences) ? :

money (coins, paper, wallets, purses)
sponge balls
mind reading/ metal bending/ mentalist type stuff
rings (wedding etc.)
ID
watches
finger chopper
cards

If not can anyone recommend any books/DVDs with lots of gags/bits of business or actual entertaining working close-up shows ? :?:

I'm looking for material that will turn lifeless (although still astounding if performed well) tricks into magical entertainment

Derren Browns 'Absolute Magic' I think is right along those lines.

But here is a tip, just think about the feeling/emotion you want to illicit, then then about a metaphore about your trick, and then combine the two. You now have a story that will seed into your magic.

My favorite of all time is probably Zamiels Rose. The patter to that trick is very well done. But unless you have Devils Picture book, it may be hard to see it performed.

The reviews state that they are just funny 1 liners rather than geared towards magicians use. Anything else that you know geared around magic routines ?

I have just been looking through my Magick Enterprises catalogue and have found a few books which may be closer to what you are looking for.

Taken from the catalogue
CHARLES, DAVID: Club Gags
There is a great shortage of suitable patter for club workers. This material, from David Charles' own act, includesopeners, visual gags, ad-libs, heckler stoppers and one-liners. There are several gag routines, classified by subject. Seventeen A4 pages. £5.00

PIPER, BEN: Club Gags Two
Audience tested gags and routines from pro comedy magician Ben Piper. £5.00

CHARLES, DAVID: The Working Magician's Gag Book
You asked for them... you've got them! More gags, routines, stories and one-liners from the Midlands favourite comedy cabaret magician (and that's not just my oopinion, it's his too) This is stuff from David Charles' own file of funnies that the working performer will use. £5.00

If any of these are of interest to you but Sheffield is too far to travel then Russel Hall (the owner) does do a mail order service. You can contact him by email at sales@magick2go.co.uk
