Coinmagic By richard Kaufmann

In my opinion, there are 3 books truly worthy of sitting on a serious coin
worker's shelf. Bobo's Modern Coin Magic (Of course), David Roth Expert
Coin Magic, and the book reviewed here, Coinmagic by Richard Kaufman.

The book was first released in 1981 and contains a wealth of sleights and
routines. The book is definitely geared towards the more experienced coin
worker and it is not cheap. However, for your money you do get a
beautifully put together A4 sized hard bound book with 270 pages. It oozes
quality. If you are a beginner, this book is not for you and your money
would be much better spent on Bobo's book.

In the book, Kaufman has brought together contributions from some of the
finest coin workers around, including D.Roth, Dai Vernon, Slydini, Derek
Dingle and Kaufman himself. The book contains distinct sections on the
coin work of these masters, as well as further sections that are from many
sources, for example there is a section devoted to 'Spellbound' routines.
The individual sections are well structured with the routines explained in
depth, with any particular sleights required for the routines explained
beforehand. For example, in the David Roth section, there is a description
of the edge grip which is then used later in section when 'hanging coins'
is described. The illustrations are excellent and the explanatory text
clear and easy to follow.

It should be noted, just in case anyone buys the book only to be
disappointed, that there are no okito box routines in the book. If this is
what you want, D.Roth Expert Coin Magic is the book for you.

Overall, I would thoroughly recommend the book to any serious coin worker.
However, be warned. The routines and sleights taught in this book are not
necessarily easy to perform. It does not contain 'tricks', rather serious
coin work that requires skill and practice.
