Well, good idea, but I would have to ask "WHY?"
Why should a board decide? This is a contest by magicians, for magicians, and to assure that everyone have a decent fair chance of winning, everyone should have the chance to be voted on...

Firstly who do we mean by "public"? I don't see why we can't just have a section dedicated to the competition, and every member is allowed one vote via a post in the particular entry thread. Voting with a post would eliminate multiple voting all together.

So bascially a member would post his entry (with a prefix to the title to indicate the competition section) then the thread would be locked untill all the entries are in. When they are all inall the threads are unlocked, then we just leave a post saying "aye" or whatever (and why you chose it etc.) in the one we like. The number of posts are then counted and the one with the most wins. Simple.

Personaly I would like to see a TM collaboration video, a bit like a magic show. It would * all over Dirty Tricks!

Now thats a very good idea, about the magic video. As it was Mahoneys idea, I think he should start a new topic on it, and we shall do it :D (If we want)

Assuming the fine details of entering and judging the contest can be sorted, I understand that there would be no problems with a separate room being arranged - all we have to do is get the Forum owner to make the changes and it will be there for you. The File Sharing section isn't up and running as yet but, once it is, then bandwidth wouldn't be a serious issue apparently. For the time being, perhaps Putfile would be the best option.

So, how about you guys arranging a test competition, just one to start with on a fairly straightforward subject and then see how it goes? You can always tweak things and make changes if required for the second round.

Looks like theyve started one already. But what is meant by 'Ace Assemblies'? Tricks like Jazz Aces or Twisted Aces etc.?

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

The Ace Assembly plot is a fairly simple one in which the four aces are placed in four separate piles with three (usually) other cards and then magically assemble in one pile together.

But yes, I suppose Jazz Aces is an ace assembly since the aces impossibly assemble in one place, even if it doesn't follow the storyline of the original Four Ace Trick.

Even though the topic has been broadened, I would be interested to see how many varaiations on the original ace assembly plot turn up.

Ditto :) . I think a purely "Ace Assemblies" (rather than four ace trick) competiton would be very interesting actually.

All the best,
