Thanks guys, but we do read the posts you know, we don't really need a series of posts pointing these things out!

1) Have you tried the colour changing poker chips (I think I paid about £20 - £25 for this effect.) It is something very visual and they can safely examine the chips afterwards (regardless of how drunk etc.)

2) There is an effect you can buy where you get a girl to select a card from your 'dating agency' pack of cards. They get excited when there is a promise of a real date with a real guy from your agency. Unfortunately they end up with the ugly joker...or with a modification, they could end up selecting the card with your picture on it !

3) and on the subject of cigarettes....a quick joke...how to make a packet of cigarettes become a cigarette lighter ? fantastic challenge around a pub bar..... simply remove a cigarette and now its (one) cigarette lighter.

Oooo, I'm not sure whether I'm exposing myself saying this, but for a bet, get a friend to pick out any girl in the place. Tell him you're going to get her number and when you do you want a pint for doing it. Then go over, explain the joke to her, ask her to write down a plausible mobile number and a false name in exchange for a drink and the look on your mate's face (flattery, eh?).

You mate sees you simply go up to a girl and engage her in some mysterious chat. He sees you buy her a drink and accept her number with absolutely no resistance.

It's even better if she's really up for a laugh, because if you can get her real number, you can arrange to call it immediately and have her wave at your mate to prove it!

I once approached a group of girls in a bar and they ALL gave me their numbers like that.

If I remember correctly......ellusionist has a quick relatively impromptu "torn and restored cigarette trick' have a look, this one should work well in a pub/bar setting!

You could also look at ways to "levitate small objects" as a cigarette, or money, playing card, business card, match or matchpack, etc, all would fit this quite nicely!

"Loops" might be worth looking at as well

get "100ways to win a tenner" or "dirty tricks" for some pub based con style stuff, bit of a laugh!
and yes, D'LITES! (as some dude said) are amazing, i am know as "the guy with the lites/cards" in a few places now"

I could imagine some simple card tricks with Ghost cards look amazing in nightclubs because of the UV. But u need ones where you dont have to put the cards down (Not exactly the nicest surfaces for putting cards onto!) and ones where you dont neccessarily have to speak to get the same effect. One could be the Haunted Deck or Card to Cigarette where you end up smoking their selected card! (at least, i think thats what its called!)

yes, ghost decks look amazing in the right places!
although as i discovered at a convention this weekend, you cannot back palm a UVreactive card. lord only knows why i was even trying it :S

I've got a trick where I pick up any packet of cigarettes and pull one out, wave it in everones face and say: "You know, you're burning money when you smoke these...".

I then slowly tear the cigarette up in full view of everyone to reveal a five pound note rolled up inside the cigarette.

The trick requires a bit of preparation and some slight of hand, but it gets a laughs or two.

The one that worked best for me, i asked a really hot girl if she wanted to see a card trick as i was pulling a deck of cards out of the packet, put the packet into my pocket holding the cards. she said yes with that i vanished the deck after fanning them out during patter. apologised and walked off. saw her later on that evening after she had a few, and she was all over me, RESULT.

Avoid having any beeswax in your pockets....i had an ITR in a club doing a few bits with it.....
It had a big lump of beeswax on ...i was chucked out as the bouncers thought it was a lump off canabis...

Never mind.

UFO with a Black Deck Ace of Spades works a treat. Also, if I see a really hot chick I want to impress, I'll approach them and ask if they'd like a voucher for a free drink. When they say 'yes', I hand them a business card and ask them what their drink is Hey - why not kill two birds with one stone?

If you are in a pub setting and want to perform some hard-hitting Mentalism, I recommend '13 Steps for Mentalism' as it has a couple of strong effects that just use pen and paper.

All the effects I have listed appear to be 'impromptu' to the audience as I am using everyday items. I highly recommend coin in bottle and bad habit for bar/nightclub effects.

Also D'lites would work a treat although they personally do not fit my style.

And as has been previously mentioned both of Paul Zennon's books can add some cheeky trickery to you act.
