requirements for cards....

I'm quite very much the beginner here.

How do I know what kind of cards to buy?
Are all card tricks done with specially purchased decks? Or are there a number of things you can do with cards that you can just grab off the shelf at the local corner store?

Riptide,
The majority of card tricks can be done with a regular deck.
You can use any deck, including the ones you buy at the corner store but a word of advice: Buy the best quality that you can afford and stick with them for all your tricks; nothing is quite as bad as seeing a magician switch decks (obvious bacause the backs are different) a half dozen times to do a half dozen tricks.
In Royal Road to Card Magic -- the quintessential book for card workers -- you will find literally scores of tricks that are one with a regular deck.

cheers,

I agree with Peter.......

Tons of things to learn with a regular deck, but quality of card is important.......some very common brands are bicycle, tally ho, aviators, and bees. Do to back design features, some decks lend themselves better to some effects......you will find this out as you go along!

Thanks for the advice (both of you). That's what I needed to know. :)

Hello there, If you are new to magic i would suggest one very easy gimmicked deck - such as the svengali deck (you can get this for around £6) this is a real confident booster once pulled off!! And also a standard non-gimmicked deck

Any problems, just post and we will try to help

I would get "The Rainbow Deck". It's a good effect. I'll make a video of it later :D
