As well as doing mentalism tricks, I know that I have become quite good at reading 'tells'. I am pretty good at playing the Lying Game and other similar stuff.
So I have now decided to let that apply to the real world:
My girlfriend and I are expecting a baby. She had to have some extra tests (all is ok) and she asked me if I want to know the sex, since they told her.
So I plan the following, Derren style. I will ask her to say 'yes' both times as I ask 'is it a girl?' and 'is it a boy?', read when she is lying and put the answer in an envelope. I might just get her to think the answers or I might do it blindfold.
I'll find out if I am right in April!

Congratulations on your bundle of joy! Hope everything goes all right.
That's one of the neat things about immersing yourself in the world of mentalism - you learn skills involving body language and the like which are so useful in every day life. Sometimes I like to just sit back and observe the world and watch all of these unconscious tells that people make.
A good book I thoroughly recommend if you're interested in finding out more about body language is 'Peoplewatching' by Desmond Morris.

Congrats Roland ... i would like to RAISE those stakes a little though ... as well as sealing that envelope... i think you need to decorate the babie's room pink or blue according to your prediction ehehe .... AND choose the babies name, regardless of whether it is born a girl or boy ehehe .. THAT would be really interesting.
Thanks,
Rob

Yes of course. In for a penny, in for a pound! Will definitely paint the room (in)appropriately. Not sure about the name though.
The thing is I don't want to know what it is until its born. I guess that I'm old fashioned like that.
Anyway, I'm going to wait a bit longer before I read her mind. My girlfriend seems happy to go along with this trick. Love me, love my magic.

Have you considered the possibility she might be carrying twins, quads etc... and not told you yet ! I'd use a fake envelope and be prepared to cover every possibility.
Joking aside, congratulations and best wishes to you and your partner.
