Its all in the cards, Ed Marlo DVD

Postby john1960uk » Dec 1st, '05, 18:57

Hello Everyone,

I'm not a great poster on any of the boards, but just had to try my hand at a review for the above DVD.

It is available from Dave Solomon at www.davidsolomon.net.

I pre ordered mine and it was dispatched/arrived just as promised, I'm in the UK by the way.

Right from the off let me point out this is not a 'teaching' DVD jam packed with effect after effect.

It is however jam packed with information and anecdotes about Marlos life and career and loads of converted cinefilm footage of Marlo performing.
The quality of the old clips is absolutely the best I've ever seen they really show Ed at work, even though they're often filmed in somebodys kitchen!

The combination of these clips and the interviews show what a great time this must of been for everybody involved. And the ground breaking card magic that came out of that era.

The Second DVD has a clip of Ed Marlo, Dai Vernon, and Charlie Miller all together on the stage at the Magic Castle, really great stuff!

Also on the second DVD is 'The Tricks' section where a host of magicians assciated with Ed, perform and explain an effect as a tribute to the great man. The effects are all well chosen and very 'doable' Steve Drauns will take a lot of practice, and Don Englands a lot of thought and some preperation.

This DVD for me was a perfect 10/10. The quality was far better than I expected, and I do feel it shows Ed in a much better light than the Cardician/Legend Tapes that I also own. finding it hard to find a criticism, except may be the section titled meet the magicians. Here there is a written Bio' of all the guys involved with the tape and the magic. It was fine, but as it is a DVD maybe a brief interview would have been better?

Anbody interested in the Life of Ed Marlo, and the develpment of great card magic, will love this set. Great Xmas pressie for someone maybe?

All the best,
John
