Anyone know of a routine like that? I know Blaine and alot of others perform it, and usually it's based on a memorized deck or something. Anyone know of a versions available?

there are dozens and dozens of any card named card effects.
Some use stacks, some use nail nicks, marks ect.
Its thought of as the holy grail of card work.
One interesting one can be found in the magic of Lewis s histead, available from magic books by post.

The two obvious ones that come to mind would be b'wave deck, and ID......but I would think that any system of card stacking would make this possible as well..........what about using a stacked deck, and a short card.....this would allow you to stack, cut, and still find the starting point easily?

i don't know if this is along the lines of what your talking about but i have a trick where they pick a card and return it i shuffel the deck and pull their card out mid shuffel. if you care to know more pm me

Is there something like this in the encyclopedia of card magic, using the Nikola system. I think bob cassidy touches on this in his book, 'the mental miracles of bob cassidy'. Which is probably the best magic book, and definately the best mentalism book I have ever bought. A wealth of effects and essays about the art.

As Dale said - there are a number of ways of doing this. One of the things I do is often ask people to think of a card and then try and tell them what it is. I find that there are a couple of common cards people think of and judging by the type of person you'll soon be able to pretty accurately tell what kind of card they're going to think of (you can get a list in psychological subtelties by Banachek and if you do it enough you'll see what I mean). I have about a 40% success rate - at least getting the card and the color right - maybe not the suit. I also reveal it in such a way that if I'm wrong I make it out as if it was an interesting experiment - but it tells me a lot about them. I'll then use that 'information' in another routine. Another option is to have a pocket index - then you have 52 'outs'.

Encyclopedia of card tricks (Hugard) gives you the Nicola stack - how to memorize it etc. With it are a lot of effects you can do that are similar to what you're looking for. Also do a search on the forum for stacked decks - there have been a number of discussions as well as recouirces for that kind of material. I use the Nicola stack as well as the BCS (haven't got round to memorizing the BCS).

There are also a number of methods for forcing a card and then getting the person to remember that they had actually just thought of the card. There is tons of material - but you need to know where to look and be prepared to take risks - but the more you practice the better you get.

Read Anneman's stuff, Corinda, Derren Brown's stuff on psychological forces, Luke Jermay, Banachek - they will all point you in the right direction (and if they dont you'll have a ton of other really good stuff as well)

Oh - I forgot to mention the Radar deck. Richard Osterlind has an awesome routine in this regard - either get Mind Mysteries 1 (I think) or you can buy the manuscript off his website.
Also - Encyclopedia of card tricks (as mentioned) has a number of really nice effects hidden away if you're prepared to look for them.

There is also the use of pocket indexes, several styles of which are available from dealers. Then there is, if you can find one, Cardini's Cards, a deck said to be originated by Cardini and retailed by Zanadu in the USA at only $15. He obtained a deck from Ed Mishell who asked him to put it on the market. I found a second hand and little used , one only 3 weeks ago. Card Collection, in Kent, used to sell it, at about £17, but no longer have it in stock.
It is fairly simple to work, just needs some practice. A spectator calls out a card, you instantly cut to it, again and again. You can also cut off any number of cards they call out. Deck is not examinable. Fascinating.

Interesting post, but this is using cimmicked cards. Which version do you guys prefer or adivse me to learn if using a "regular" deck? (memoirzed i guess).

If you learn a memorised deck, with an ordinary deck,and there are several versions available from Bart Harding's to the more complicated Nikola System, you'll have a method for life. I think, if you're in to cards it would be well worth it. Marc Oberon ( Europe Close Up Champion) whose stagecraft and presentation I coached, gets a lot out of the stacked deck.
