They are actually awesome for children shows

Wkhy restrict them to children's shows; given the right handling (and they can do FAR more than make spots of light appear), they work for just about any show!

I have never bought any or seen any live but have watched various videos?

They look fab but do you need to be in darkish areas to see them?? All the videos demos are done in dark places where you can only just see the magicians face.

I don't have any of these but I know how they work; I'm guessing it helps to be in a dark place, so that the lights are easier seen, but as far as the actual gimmick itself goes you don't have to be in darkness to hide it.

i'd say they're not good for kiddie shows, but then i wouldn't want to be in a dark room with lots of little people.

just got some colour changers, now they rock, as soon as someone's cottened on to what you're doing, you change the colour of it and throw them off a bit, awesome!

CANNOT BE USED IN THE DAY! should be written on all packaging or something though, or "strictly a night-time affair"

I love mine, and yes, they are much better suited for dark, or faded lighting.........I have a key chain that has the same colour lite as my dlites, and I start by pointing the light from my key chain, to my thumb, and telling people that "I attract light, and have the ability to manipulate it" After shining the key light on my thumb, I casually engage the dlite...........at this point, nothing is noticed, as the thumb looks to be lit up by the key chain.........then I casually turn the key chain away, and shut it off.............it appears as though my thumb is still glowing from the key light.....then I move into throwing, swallowing, bouncing, etc.....as per most dlight performances.

I would suggest to anyong to go to a small store, and find a light of someform that can be shone on your finger, and matches your dlites....adds to the effect, in my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good grief! Have we become such a dense society that we need instructions for even the obvious?

No doubt this could be written by the same person who puts instructions on baby stollers, saying: "When folding up stroller, remove baby first."

And the one on the packet of Delta Airlines salted peanuts which said, 'Warning - may contain nuts'

Seen on the packet of a Sainsbury's cheesecake, upon which a slice of said confection was displayed: "Serving Suggestion"

D'Lites are great for simply giving people on the street a double take. Go up to a chav chariot and steal one of the blue lights off the bonnet. Steal a red or white light from a pelican crossing sign and eat it. Sit in a pub reading the paper and occasionally eating a light instead of a crisp. Aask fro the time, appologise for not hearing very well, before pulling a light from your ear, blowing it out and asking again. The list is endless, and the days are so dark these days that they're perfectly useable on the street after about 3:30pm.

Tip: Got two or more colours in your pocket and don't know how to pull the right one out? Put a nick in the underside of the open end of the second pair, two in a third, etc. Having a selection of colours really screws with some people's heads. One they can handle as a trick, but three? It's what psychologists informally call a "brain fart".

I used to do a similar thing but use a laser pointer to produce a red dot on a surface then pluck this and start manipulating it.

As we can all tell from the above posts, there are a zillion ways to use these wonderful gimmicks!

Even better! You can get keyfob lasers for about a fiver that'd be ideal (and they drive cats insane).

Got my D Lites last week.

I just have to concur with everything that has been said, they are a great effect. I have started "picking the lights" off of TV sets and radios.

I know that this isn't great magic but it adds to the fun of any performance, casual or otherwise.

optical mice (mouses?), barcode scanners, breaklights, traffic lights, flashy lights on christmas hats, christmas tree lights, those little blue sweets they give out at some restaurants etc. etc.

Shopping queue - barcode scanner doesn't work - lean over take out the light - look at it. Say "hmm I can't see the problem" then put it back and act as if nothing happened.
When standing by a colleague's desk - pick up their optical mouse, take out some light - eat it or something - act as if you did this all the time.

A kid came on stage the other night with a christmas hat with flashy lights I dropped one of my effects and played with the lights a bit - it got a great response.

Yep - the options are endless..
