Seasonal Ideas

Postby Discombobulator » Dec 1st, '05, 20:04

I am looking for a few Christmas ideas to build into my routine. Can anyone suggest any little touches that are in keeping with the Christmas spirit. E.g. Tricks with tinsel, christmas cards, festive one liners etc.

I am saving all my spare cash for Christmas presents, so it is only small touches and DIY ideas that I am looking for.

Thanks for your help.

I use christmas bells in some of my routines, rather than balls, coins, etc........you can also use christmas ribbon for a "cut & restored rope" style of routine.

You could consider some small object leveitation....with a theme of "How does Santa make his reindeer fly?"

Or a thought just came to mind........mentalism.....and say something about always knowing what your gifts are!!!! Then try some form of mentalism using small wrapped gifts!

On Jay Sankey's "22 Blows to the Head" he has a small mentalism routine that deals with bells.......this would also be very suitable for the holiday season.

Maybe consider using a mixed deck of Red & Green green bicycle cards to add a Christmas visual................use a Candy cane as my wand, and have some christmas candles on my table.......that way you can dress up your entire theme with a holiday look.

A good friend of mine, who assisted me on the road to success in magic many years ago is John Oakley. He produced, some years ago, a booklet titled, 'Uncle's Charlie's Christmas Cards' which is all about Xmas themes on effects that are primarily childrens effects and some adult.

If its still available, and I don't know. John's site is .....

As moondini suggest, Jay Sankey is a good reference for this ... I'm planning on using his trick called "Snow Storm" .. its a little like Jokers wild but has a little festive touch.

You could always do some 'gospel magic'. After all we are celebrating the birthday of Jesus (the real meaning of Christmas in case anyone has forgotten  )

I came up with an idea last new year http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic4379.php&highlight=party+poppers but I am sure there will be plenty of impromptu magic to be done at Christmas.
When I think of some ideas I will let you know. :D

Christmas candle thru arm! or Torn and Restored Turkey Leg!!

How about a coin routine with some of those chocolate coins you can only buy at christmas?

I know that if my sister gets what she wants, i'll be doing a variation of Card through Window on Boxing Day - Furby through Window!

I was thinking about an egg bag routine using baubals instead of eggs, and a cups and baubals routine

Oh........as trickyricky said.....

Occasionally I will do a quick little coin routine with the "choclate foil" coins, and then hand them to the young spec when done.....in canada, we have some that are a perfect match to our $1 coin.....so with a quick shuttle pass, you can turn a real coin into a choclate one in a flash!

Hey Sirrawlings.......

I completely forgot about that Sankey effect.......I am going to have to get that one out, and work on drawing a convincing snowglobe again!!!!

Here's an idea, how about a selected card going from the deck into someone's christmas pudding (and if you're REALLY good get it signed).

If you're really bored and have a blank deck you could make your own christmas themed deck, the Ten of Santas, The Jack of Elves, etc. You could even just take one blank card draw a nice santa on it and instead if "Jokers Wild" you can have "Santas Wild", or if you're feeling slightly religious (or blasphemous as some people might see it) you could have "Jesus Wild".

Have you heard his wonderful singing on that DVD:
Jay Sankey Sings:
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way,
Now you know why I do magic and mentalism, not a singer

That guy is hilarious.[/b]
