My first "show" lol

Postby stevebo » Dec 5th, '05, 18:40

I did my first magic show today! well... kinda.

It was an old folks charity Christmas Party. I was in it for around 2 and a half hours and it went alright!

Basically, I did a few tricks to a few of the tables and one table I particularly liked. The specs were actually amazed. Another table had a woman who was really interested as well.

The others weren't as good. The old folks either didn't get it or just wasn't all that impressed.

But overall, it went quite well!

Hey nice one mate and well done

I have a gig on the 15th also an old person residence, i'll be doing a little cabaret and some table hopping type close-up.

hey what sort of things did you do

this is my preared list for my gig

crazy mans handcuffs
NFW
wild cards
sponge balls
2 card monte
another trick i have where a spectator picks a card and then with a flame i make the chosen card appear on a piece of glass- pretty cool effect
£ to penny (i've forgot what its called)

im using a mix of items that can be used daily as apposed to just cards, even tho i love card trick, hoping for each one to take atleast 10-15mins including introduction

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Congratulations on a successful first performance. As the cheesy 90's (I think) song goes: "The only way is up...Stevebo!"

How were the nerves? I know you've mentioned them on here before. Did you manage to settle into a nice calm rhythm?

I have yet to make my first performance outside of friends and family - and a couple of people at my university who asked me why I was playing with cards between lectures. However, I did manage to fool a working professional last night, which I was pleased with - even if it was just a 90% self-working trick that he'd never seen before (I won't mention his name 'cause he's a member on here).

I agree, tell us more stevebo. We're naturally curious creatures.

Also, how long were you spending at each table?[/b]

Tricks I did included my ambitious card routine (a collection of different moves) and some others. Mainly the ambitious card just because I love it.

Also did the sponge balls dissappearing and appearing in their hands etc.

As mentioned before in another topic, my nerves are almost all gone now when performing. I don't get nervous anymore and this is ALL down to practice and confidence. Seriously.

Just perform to someone everyday. Do a litlle bit of flourishing when you're with friends and some people will walk up to you and just do tricks with them. A crowd will gather and then you'll find you're doing magic to around 20 people.
