Gregory Wilsons Double Take

Postby i1011i » Dec 14th, '05, 13:12

I recently bought this dvd and I couldn't believe my eyes that it hasn't been reviewed here. If it has, then the search function ain't workin'.

The Effect

This dvd goes through the in's and out's of doing double lifts. Anyone who can pick up a deck of cards can do a DL elegantly after watching this DVD. It goes over tons of different types of double lifts from Dai Vernon, Ed Mario, Martin Nash, and many others.

Included are seven powerful routines:

* Phoenix Aces - Produce the four aces from mid-air ... ...really!
* Weighted Aces - A variation of the legendary Doc Daley's Last Trick.
* Two Wrongs DO Make A Right - A visual stunner that looks like trick cards.
* Four Card Trick -Darwin Ortiz's Jumping Gemini, with an added killer climax.
* Plus - three more stunners, and a live performance of Greg's own personal Ambitious Card Routine.
(Ok, so some of that was copy and pasted from penguinmagic!)

Cost

14.01gbp http://www.penguinmagic.com/europe/product.php?ID=995
$25.95 http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=995

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I would say most of the stuff is about 1-3, and a few things could be considered a 4. So everyone's covered! (Cept the show-offs, but then you probably don't need this dvd if you are to that point.)

Review

What others have done for The Pass and The Force, Gregory Wilson has now down for the DL. In this DVD with nearly 2 hours of photage, Wilson goes through more DL techniques and utilities than you will ever need. Not only that, but he gives you clear ideas when to use them and where not to. He even teaches a few other sleights in the routines that are, above all else, invaluable. You will be able to find a DL suitable for you in this dvd no matter how jaded you are to this dastardly move.

I have been doing cards for some time now. I pride myself in knowing alot of advanced sleights. But I always over looked the DL because I was intimidated by it when I first got started. I thought, "No one will be fooled by that! Everyone knows about picking up 2 cards at once!" But on this dvd you will learn double lifts that WILL fool alot of magicians.

Overall

With the amount of knowledge learned and the practicality of it's use I would have to say this dvd is a

[9.5/10]

I was very tempted to give it the full 10. It should lose very few points with such valuable information and G.Wilsons great teaching techniques.

So go buy it already!

Well, I just put in Double Take and just searched the review section and didn't see it. Maybe I am blind. Sorry!
