Appearing Broom

Postby MagicIain » Dec 18th, '05, 23:06

I've noticed the Appearing Broom mentioned a couple times on these boards, but no actual review as such. Anybody got one and wants to share a review or any comments?

I'm in 'Cinderella' next month, as Buttons, and the pair of us (Cinderella and I) do a fair bit of cleaning, as per the story. We're already producing our 'dusters' from our empty hands, and I thought that an Appearing Broom each would look amazing.

Here's the link: Appearing Broom

Many thanks in advance.

Appearing Broom & paper Routine for Cinderella

Postby Allen Tipton » Dec 23rd, '05, 12:33

:) Zack. Appearing broom would be fine in panto BUT should Buttons be doing magic? The Fairy Godmother should grant him the powers first or perhaps he has been given a Paul Daniels, Marvin's Magic, Stephen Mulhern's, Paul Zennon's magic Set for Xmas and wants to cheer Cinders up by perfoming. Although Panto can be such a mixture I feel there must be some logic with the straight characters.
In a couple of Cinderellas I staged. I gave Buttons a tearing paper routine. The music was 'It's Only A Paper Moon'. It was just played in the first production but Buttons sang it in the other productions.
Using newspapers he tore out a cloak, a hat, the paper tree done small became a bouquet, 3 small paper circles became braclets and a necklace.
There was also a pleated newspaper( like a venetian blind) which became a fan. Another pleated paper, to complete the picture was dropped open. It had on it ,in black silhouette,A man & a girl under a black moon.
Two other societies liked it so much I was asked to stage it for them. It was (less heavy) a change from putting the table cloth round Cinders and a colinder/pan on her head. The idea I got from seeing Ronnie Corbett tear out a paper cloak and crown in the Palladium's Cinderells in the 70's. The pleated paper idea was based on Eric Hawksworth book on paper folding. I believe he did 'prepared tears for Ronnie C at the Palladium.
Mine were marked out on the newspapers and torn on the spot. Obviously the pleated one had the silhouettes drawn on ready. The 2nd Cinders I made Buttons open it at the beginning and show just a black crescent moon on it. Then it was place on the floor( and reversed) ready for the Finale.

when i played buttons, the director wanted me to do some magic. It too ages to persuade her that little would top the coach and 2 live ponys F.G produces.
She did agree in the end. All i did was produce a rose for Cinders during the transformation scene Ballet to close act one.

I more than made up for it the year after, when i directed Aladin!!

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
