TV Magic of 2005

So, what are your overall thoughts about the magic that rolled across our screens throughout 2005? There was the infamous 'Dirty Tricks' which, for it's sins, has kept magic in the public eye for a little longer. As well as this Barry and Stuart have cropped up on our screens in 'When Magic Tricks Go Wrong' and 'The Magic of Jesus'. I can't quite remember what was on earlier in the year.

Paul Zenon magiced us in to the New Year with his 'White Magic' and 2006 looks promising what with Derren Brown's 'The Heist' on soon, and while not magic I think we can count it.

In fact, there's been quite a bit of magic on TV in 2005, and not just on digital, on terrestrial channels as well. No matter what we thought of the programmes it's a good sign that magic is being given what seems like more air time now and that it's beginning to get the recognition it deserves after a short hiatus. Magic is zinging it's way back on to our screens with something for everyone - Derren Brown for the heavier stuff and things like Dirty Tricks for the lighter entertainment; and the nation seems to be enjoying it.

Tomorrow, 9pm - 10pm Channel 4. It looks to be quite an interesting social experiment.

The heist is on tommorow if my memory serves me right!

I'm a little undecided on the magic of 2005, there was alot of interesting stuff on, including Paul Zenon and a couple of Derren Brown items aired on C4 ... also enjoy Johnathons Escapes when that was on.

There has also been some bad TV, I'm sure you all know what I'm refering too ... i appreciate that it is bringing magic to the masses and keeping it in the public eye, but why not keep it in the public eye by doing somthing decent with the hours and hours of air time!?

2006 I'm sure will be a good year, I'm sure we will have an annoucment at some point from Mr Blaine as to his next performance ... and fingers crossed for a little more sensible magic.

I watched it all, and so far although I have seen it before (I believe it was on last xmas) I really enjoyed Paul Zenons "White Magic" show. I knew how most the stuff was done, and I never really watch a magic tv show in order to be wowed. But I really liked Pauls presentation style. He seems just a decent normal guy. He presents his effects without taking it all too seriously, and has a cheeky, but not offensive manner. I was impressed at how he could use a svengali deck for one effect, but presented it with a new twist (Card inside mitten!)

Looking forward to Mr. Brown tomorrow night, but as someone has already said in this thread "Is it magic?" Very entertaining I am sure it will be though.

Anyone else watch The Heist today? Any opinions?

I quite liked it actually. I like all of Derren's stuff but that in particular was quite interesting. I wonder how much of it was bogus - it did sound plausible to me. Hmmm....
