One Handed Cuts

Postby magic_evmeister » Jan 4th, '06, 19:42

As requested by moonbeam on this thread right here, I thought I would share some of the cuts I can do. They are by no means perfect but the serve well as an example for anyone who wants a few to try.

Also, please note that when it refer's to a cut on the video as "MY OWN" I am not exclusively claiming originality to the cut. I'm sure someone, somewhere before has done them but I've never seen anyone else try it so I'm illustrating this in the video with the phrase "MY OWN". If you have an origin for them then please let me know.

Here's the video:
Magic Evmeister's One Handed Cuts

My favourite at the moment is the "Reverse Charlier" because I've recently had success with misdirecting people and using this as a one handed pass (even at the speed shown in the video).

Nice vid evmeister. I liked the Revoloution 2, as i have never seen that one. Its much better in my opinion than the 1st and the 3rd

I also liked the reverse charlier, I'm going to have a go at that later when my new cards are worn in

Keep up the good work :D

Ta very much. I found that the Reverse Charlier is really easy to do with your hands resting at your side (once you can do it upright that is). That's how I used it to do a pass.

I've just checked the video and the Revolution 2 is the 3rd one.

1: My Own "Leap-Frog Cut"
2: Brian Tudor's "Revolution 1"
3: Brian Tudor's "Revolution 2"
4: Charlier Cut
5: My Own "Reverse Charlier"

Very Good bud ... i like one handed cuts alot, and like you say, passing them off as a pass is an excelent method.

Your 'Reverse Charlier" is taught by Daryl in his encyclopedia volume 8, he calls it the "Reach Accross Cut" apparently that isnt the official name for it though.

Cheers Rob.

Sorry Kev, my bad dawg. I've never heard of (or seen) the revo 3. If I had then I might've got that comment. Any chance of a Demo vid, PLEASE? :D

Revolution 3 is the easiest out the three. I'll probably make a video of it. Nice work on the cuts and I love the camera quality. The only thing I didn't like on the video was the revolution cut. I shouldn't actually look like a cut, it should look more like a packet of cards spins to the bottom.

Some tips on the Revolution Cut:

1) Get as much of the cut done with the thumb and index finger, and finish the rest of the cut with the index and ring finger.
2) Do not bend the ring finger inwards to grab the packet (I know it's hard, I find it hard too) but instead, it should be stationery and wait until the thumb and index brings the packet towards the ring finger.
3) Try and tilt the packet to the left actually before you spin the packet. This allows maximum revolution on the cut.

After practice with the revolution cut, it gets really easy and sometimes, it feels easier than a normal Charlier!

Also, the Reverse Charlier, I believe is the Thumb Cut. Not sure that you could claim it as your own, sorry.

Cheers for the vid - some nice slick handling in there.

I just tried doing some and as per usual the cards ended up in a heap on the floor - but at least now I can kinda see where I'm supposed to be putting my fingers etc and I may eventually master another 1 handed cut apart from the Charlier (I didn't even know it was called this lol  )

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

After looking at the video again, I see what is wrong with your Revolution Cut. You should NOT use the thumb to assist the packet once it's between the index and ring finger.

Edit: Here's that video I promised. It's the revolution cut, revolution III (for those who wanted to see it) and the thumb cut.

Thanks for the advice stevebo. I'll try it. The revo 1 is something i haven't put much effort into learning as my efforts have been spent elsewhere (mostly still trying to master basic sleights like the DL, lol).

Nice video aswell. The cards stay together alot better when you do it. However, I can claim one small victory over you...I have a bigger thumb than you so I don't have to bend to cards to do the thumb cut (I prefer reverse charlier, lol). HAHAHA. Only joking mate, great video from a great magician. You rule!!!!
