Organising Your Cards

Postby magic_evmeister » Jan 5th, '06, 02:29

I was wandering what sort of systems you guys use for organising your decks of cards. I've got a box sitting under my desk with about 50 decks of cards in including normal decks, fashion deck (black tigers, vipers, etc), stripper decks, svengali decks, a mirage deck, blank face, double back, bicycle seconds, double back, mixed gaff cards, a box full of jokers I've removed from all my previous decks, and various packet tricks such as Astral Projection, Fade Away, Knock 'Em Dead, etc. I often find myself spending ages going through this box looking for the deck I want.

I'm sure there are people who have been doing magic alot longer than I have and have WAY more decks than I have so I ask: How do you know where to look?

Ive been doing magic for about a year. I just use post-its. I put a big N on if its a new deck that i can perform with, a big P on if its not in good enough of a condition to perform with, a big I if its incomplete because theres more than 10 cards missing (I figure i can still perform or practice with a deck thats in good enough quality that has upto 10 cards missing but after that the deck gets thin and noticable)

For all of my gimmick decks (with the exception of the ID) i made a small space at the bottom of my cluttered wardrobe and chucked them in there to rot because i never use them any more.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

i can just tell from the deck what im using. thats just me, but yeah, i think i went with the postit notes, works, but i already knew what type of deck it was. and on my desk, i orgnize normal decks, cool looking decks (tigers, ghosts, huge big decks), Gaffs, and then speical decks like svengali and the ID. see it that helps

Good question actually!

I have about 3 or 4 decks that I use regularly - they live downstairs by the door so that I can grab them on the way out of the house. I also have practise decks scattered throughout the house so I can grab them...

Thats sounds like a fun idea kati. Just finished in the bathroom and you can think "I think I should practice some one handed fans. Where's the nearest deck?"

Love it.

I don't know what kind of things you enjoy over your side of "the pond" in Virginia but my *rse can do without an air cushion finish if you know what I mean.

I have only a few decks. I use all my decks sparingly and they last a very long time. Washing my hands with soap before practicing flourishes is great. I can play with the cards for an hour and they don't get sticky nor do single cards wear out easily.

However, I'm going to start buying more cards for collecting.

I tend to be quite sparing with my fashion decks like the tigers, vipers, blue/pink/green reversed decks, black/green backed decks, but stuff like my regular blue/red decks and things which I've got setup with gimmicked cards included (DF'er or whatever) can often take quite a bit of abuse so I make sure I've got plenty of them.
