Just thought i would write in my top ten anyone else want to write theres in your more then welcome remeber if you do write yours you must write an explantation ok thank you.

1. Dai Vernon - Genius, God, look in the dictionary under magic and you will find him.
2. Houdini – You think of magic you think of him
3. Juan Tamariz – Amazing performer great personality
4. Lance Burton – In his own league for stage illusions
5. Bebel – Greatest Close-up card magician I have ever seen one of the few magicians that I have actually watched and have been gob smacked
6. Penn and Teller – Greatest Magic Duo
7. Rene Levand – Can do equally as good magic as any top magician and he has one arm. Incredible!!!
8. Harry Lorayne – Excellent writer and when I first started magic his book (The Magic Book) was the first book I brought and it was brilliant
9. Corinda – Has written the greatest book on Mentalism you will ever read
10. David Blaine – I no what some of you are thinking (WHY) well the reason is because I think he brought magic into a new era and for that he goes number 10.

No worries, it's always best to add to an existing thread rather than start another if possible. Even that recent one isn't original as there was one on the Old Forum 3 years or so ago (when I was young and had hair!).

These sorts of things are all so subjective; it really depends on what sort of magic you're into.

For me, Derren Brown (and his team) for their genius, David Blaine and Paul Zenon and Criss Angel et al for bringing magic back to the TV, and then Kenton Knepper for his unceasing crusade against all the wrongs in the magic world and for being such a brilliant thinker.

Lennart Green for his excellent Card skills, Greg Wilson for being brilliant and Derren Brown for his excellent skills in his card magic and his mentalism

normally i hate these top 10 type things purely because they all end up saying the same thing ( basically a list of whoever seems to be in vogue at the time of writing.. i see Derren brown has a few mentions already and Criss Angel is boud to get a few also) but for once I'm going to actually write on of these lists (maybe its beacuse i feel certain folks dont get enough credit or maybe its cos ive got nothing better to do!?) plus the fact that the topic is "the top ten GREATEST magicians" and not the top ten best at the moment


in no particular order...

Dai Vernon..quite simply THE master

Ed Marlo... without him a lot of card stuff would remain a mystery

Larry Jennings.. a friend of Vernon and almost as good!

David Copperfield.. not my cup of tea but you cant deny he is one of the most famous stage performers ever

Paul Daniels.. ok slightly irritating but again i defy anyone to say he shouldnt have a place on the list due to his tv series

Matt Schulien..By all accounts one of the best "bar/resteraunt" workers.. owned his own bar in Chicago("Schuliens")and was famed for his "card on the wall" effect and also for being a very funny guy. I would have loved to be able to see him perform.

Cardini.. his skill at manipulation is legendary..i'd love to see D'evo or the twins(whatever their names are) try and manipulate cards while wearing evening gloves


there are obviously some that ive missed(especially in the mentalism or Bizarre genres although id have to mention charles cameron for the Bizarre bit but i dont know enough about him, im sure Craig Browning will let me know if he reads this) but as the topic was GREATEST i didnt want to just throw names in for the sake of it, i didnt put Sadowitz or Roy Walton in the list even though i feel they are 2 of the most innovative cardmen around at the moment but they fall short of the title "Greatest" (although not by much )

I mentioned Criss purely because of the fact that he is helping to keep magic in the public eye. I'm no particular fan, just of the opinion that at least magic is being given the air time.

From a technical point of view Guy Hollingworth is masterful with a pack of cards and has skills beyond his years (if that makes any sense ); I too think that Lenart Green is brilliant and have great respect for the masters of yesteryear; Devant, Maskelyne, Kellar, Vernon and many more - without them we probably wouldn't be where we are today.

Paul Daniels was great - I grew up watching him on the telly.

Yes I agree. I think that Roy Walton should be in there, because he has invented some of the greatest tricks of all time (and he sold me all my magic )
