Getting together

Postby Paul Bolt » Jan 5th, '06, 15:47

Having just spent about 30 hours in December practising I still got spotted carrying out a move which from my side of the table ( and in the mirror) looked absolutely perfect. I find that there is nothing worse for denting my confidence or enthusism that realising that all the practice counts for very little.

I firmly believe that an hour every now and again with like minded people to try things out and share ideas and tips would help me personally in an enormous way. I live in Petts Wood, North Kent (between Bromley and Orpington) and would like to know if anyone reasonably locally (or in Cenral London for that matter) would like to spend a short while comparing notes to either improve technique or come up with new ideas. Please let me know your thoughts.

Hi Paul.

To start with, you may want to read this thread as by updating your profile everyone would know a little bit more about you (without having to search for you introduction like I did :) )

Funnily enough I have family in Petts Wood and I am down that way quite often. So I may look you up, but to be honest the best advide I can give you is to look into joining one of your local magic societies.

You are blessed in South London/kent, the nearest two are probably Bexleyheath and South London, but further out there are also 3 or so more close by.

You are bound to meet many like minded people at these societies (Contrary to populatr belief they aren't just for professional magicians)

:) Paul Bolt Now you've hit on one of the answers to solving problems. Looking in a mirror, and sometimes this can apply to the 3 sided mirror a lot of close upperers use, doesn't always give you the exact impression of a move. You are concentrating on the move and consequently you DO NOT always see exactly what happens. In front of a mirroe, BECAUSE you are looking for ?, often causes you to lose that relaxed approach. Sometimes a camcorder helps . it at least gives you (admittedly a one eye view) of the handling. Much better to check it live with a trusted friend. Sometimes another magician doesn't always give you the right answer as a number will insiost on simply showing you 'This is the way I DO IT' Not necessarily the right way for you though it can provoke thought.
[u]IF a move is detected after much practice, then change it. It may possibly be at that time just beyond your expertise & experience.
