Art of Astonishment Help

Postby Pitto » Jan 6th, '06, 19:39

Can anyone tell me where these tricks are in the Art of Astonishment set 1-3.

Ive been told they are in there i just cant find them. I know there's an index but the names don't always give you a good idea of the actual effect. The tricks i am looking fot are:

The one where you change the imprint of a coin from heads to tails

The four ace discovery that Oz Pearlman does at the beginning of his Art of Astonishment demonstration

A version of three card monte where the spectators card disappears and is found face up in the middle of the deck.

The page numbers or names of these tricks would be great,

Cheers

The first one you're looking for is The Shape of Astonishment. I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the others.

why not just read the books?

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

I have read the books but there is usually a long introduction by Paul Harris which is funny but it does not always give you a great idea of the trick.

Cheers GoldFish, I practiced shape of astonishment last night it is awsome.

So you haven't read the books, you've read the introductions. If you'd actually read the books you would know which effect is which. That's the great thing about reading all of it

Answered my own question

The first on like GoldFish says is called the shape of astonishment, the version of 3 card monte is, in fact, just on stage from tap dancing aces and the ace thing i think might just be a collection of controls that are taught in the books.

On the subject of Paul Harris! I was searching for an official site when I came across a group solely for people to discuss the Art of Astonishment books! Then I spotted this...........

"Two Missing Effects

Here is a special treat for members of the “Art of Astonishment” group. Richard Kaufman has kindly given me permission to reproduce, just for our group, two effects that appeared in the September 1985 issue of Genii (the “Paul Harris” issue). These two effects, “$2 Aces” and “Erase the Ace”, were not included in the three volume set “Art of Astonishment”. As far as I can tell, they were not published in any of his individual books or manuscripts either. If anyone knows if they were published previously, let me know."

You have to own all three vol. of Art of Astonishment to join the group but then these effects are available for download in the files section!!

Worth a look, heres the link......

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ArtOfAstonishment/

Might have to write this in if it dosn't work as a link, not too hot on that type of thing!!........Enjoy.

Also anyone know anything about the dvd set Paul Harris is releasing later this year? It's his last big project apparently!
