The Beard Revelation

Postby Beardy » Jan 9th, '06, 21:42

The following is an effect which I made up myself. I am sorry to say that I was very proud of myself for this, as i have never created any other trick myself before :P. I couldn't resist but to share it with all of you guys. I dunno how effective it is on camera, but I have to say the reactions i get when I perform it live is that of wonder, amusement, and mystery :P

It is very simple, and the mechanics of the trick is probably very easy for a magician to spot, yet not a single layperson has found out its secret. Just thought that I would share it with you...

Oh, and by the way, it is a lot better with patter...

Enjoy :D

p.s. - sorry about the quality of light and camera, i dont have much to choose from :P and also sorry about the lack of music, i have had everything wiped on the computer :S

Love

Chris

Nice trick well done! Was hard to see though because it was zoomed in a bit too close but apart from that it great. I liked how you made good use of that special joker. If you could somehow vanish the selected card then you could say how it isn't in the deck because the joker has snatched it or something, then go on to show that is has gone. But yeah well done on that.

You might also want to have a look at "Jokers Wild", it uses that same colour change.

lol when I read "Beard Revelation" I instantly thought of a guy holding a book over his face and revealing a big beard. Wow now that is a good idea! "Man grows beard in an instant!"

Nice job. I don't think it's totally original (the card is supplied for this very kind of effect), but the method and presentation is nicely done.

Good job!

 I think my Grandpa would be looking to buy this effect for his head :D

Nice effect, but I'm sure someone was talking about this not that long ago, maybe I'm wrong

I think I have those cards somewhere :D

Yeah. I saw the joker in most of my packs of cards, and kept getting really annoyed as to why it was in there. I decided to make somthing of it :)

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

Jokers Wild is where I got that colour change from. I thought it was easy and very good to do.

The idea of the vanishing king is a good idea. I would love to add that to the effect. Any ideas on how to do it? I suppose i could palm it away, but any other ideas would be nice :D

Thanks in advance!

Well, the obvious and ungimmicked way would be to hold it as a double under the Joker and spread out the rest of the deck - it wouldn't be there because it's out already!

Because you are forcing the card you could also use a bit of DS tape...

Nice idea for an effect, but I'm not really sure what you're laying claim too? Magicians have been using these cards in this way ever since these type of cards have been produced. There are several make of cards which use this design of joker and there have even been marketed effects which have taken this idea a step further and had very specific cards made to accomplish the same effect.

Also, you need to polish up the way you handle cards. I don't mean to be harsh but your card handling isn't very smooth at the moment.

All the best,

I know. My card handling is very poor at this point in time. I'm working on it. Generally I am better "live" so to speak - but no excuses right now ;)

I am not up to the standard of some of the other magcicians on this site...correction, sorry..."most" of the magicians on this site, when it comes to handling cards. But then again, I am working on it.

I hope to be able to improve a lot in the next few months - recently i have been trying to get into cards more than show effects.

The only problem when it comes to improving my card ahndling, is that i know of no magic club, e.t.c, near me (Reading), so the only ideas for improvements come from here. As I can't get too many videos filmed :P (not my camera you see ;)) I can only do so much.

But hey ho - i shall slowly, but surely get there! If anybody knows of any magic clubs near here - i shall gladly appreciate it :D

Also - thanks for the comments guys - any more constructive critism welcome!

Love

Chris

A nice trick, one thing on the card handling - no need to bend the cards so far back when u riffle shuffle them. Looks a lot neater when the cards arnt bent quite as far back, also does the cards a lot of damage and they wear quicker.

All the best
