Mr Fustration...

Postby SirRawlins » Jan 8th, '06, 22:45

Today is a sad day for me ... after a little accident involving a broken wine glass last night i now have plasters on two fingers of my right hand .... Thus temporarily rendering me unable to effectively handle cards.... Whilst the cuts are a little tender, they are nothing in comparison to the mental distress of not being able to practice properly Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!

It's at difficult times like these I need your Support & Tips ... PM me if you wish to make a financial donation to my sorry cause (that is what they meant by "Tips" was it not?)

Anyone else had similar experiences? I’m sure its common place ... next time I’ll be drinking the wine out of a toddlers plastic beaker with one of those great little slop-proof tops on it

Why not get Rene Lavand's videos. :D

Then when you've got both hands back you'll be twice as good as you were before!

I once took a chunk out of my second finger on my right hand, which is the finger I use for my DL. It was right on the spot that I need and every time I tried to do a DL it would open the cut. I couldn't do a DL for about a week and got so frustrated that I ended wincing for the next week or so, just so I could do one.

I also managed to put quite a substantial burn on right hand once, which just so happened to align perfectly with the bottom corner of a card when I was palming it. The problem was on the day I burnt myself, I was working and palming cards is quite an important feature of two of my effects. That night my hand stung like mad!

Nicks and cuts are always a pain and they always seem to debilitate me from doing sleights properly.

On really small nicks, I've resorted to super glue before, just to hold the skin together. :?

All the best,

Will Wood

Sorry to hear about your injuries! I hope you heal up and get back to your card work.

In the meantime - perhaps use this time on the disabled list to work on your coin magic? With your fingers out of the game, you can work on your classic palm!!

I also have a small chunk of my left thumb missing after an incident involving an airport security scanner, a laptop computer and a starbucks mug! If i bend my thumb any more than a little bit, it opens then gash again and starts to bleed everywhere and, more importantly, my cards! Im sure that i could come up with an effect that uses the blood in some strange way to reveal a card, but i figure its not worth the time or mess just for a little gory revelation!

Just stick in a DVD that you havent seen for a while and enjoy! and if you must have cards in your hands, just work on you double charliers with your uninjured hand!!

I had a cut thumb on my Cardini Change (Ego Change) video I made. Same happened to me with a wine glass. I was working in the bar and broke 2 wine glasses while wiping each one. First glass I was lucky and didn't cut me. Straight after breaking that one, I break another by wiping too hard AGAIN! The glass went into my thumb and the blood pours out... lovely...

So yeah, that video was quite a painful video.

 Thank you chapps .. glad to hear I'm not the only one to have suffered at some point ... the real bu**er of it i didnt realize i was bleeding untill i walked into the room and realized my computer mouse and my deck of cards were all covered in blood, then glance down to see it dripping on the carpet lol.

I've been working on my 1 Handed cuts so all is well and I'm quite content for now.

Sir Rawlins,
Consider yourself fortunate; your injuries will heal.

Joe Raven, a professional closeup performer in New England, lost three fingers when some flash powder exploded prematurely.

Since fingers have a tendency not to grow back (!), he had to learn how to do everything with just seven fingers on two hands.

He did and is back in action now. More power to him! And to you!

cheers,

Seems like you're doing just fine with one handed CUTS (ok - I know. that was weak. I just couldn't resist it. Please don't throw anything at me).

Well seeing as we're being all gory - I took a chunk out of my finger while doing this fork twist/corkscrew thing I sometimes do at the end of a fork bending routine. This was for a table full of people at a restaurant I perform at. I now have a mini first aid kit in the bag with all my stuff. Good thing too - because there was another gig where I had just broken a fork and was walking around playing with the broken piece and ended up slicing my finger with the broken end. I wasn't even performing at the time. It's amazing how spectators will suspect an innocent little thing such as a band aid as having a magnet or something inside..

I curently have little use for my left thumb, since i poached it over a kettle on saturday night, during one of my legendary at home sesions.

So, i had to sit back and watch others play.
:D

It does sting though. The blister got stuck to the duvet durng the night, and ripped off when i turned over.

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

This thread reminds me of a David Blaine special i have on DVD somewhere. On it, he spreads the cards on the table, covers them with a menu and stabs the menu with a steak knife. His little finger slipped off the handle and cut all of his tendons and nerves in his hand and now he cant straighten or bend his finger right.
