Poz Lecture at Ipswich

Postby bananafish » Jan 10th, '06, 15:43

Many here will already know of Poz, imho one of the best children's magicians around at the moment.

Next Monday (16th Jan) he will be lecturing at Ipswich Magical Society.

Obviously this lecture will be best suited for any children's magicians (or budding children's magicians) out there, but don't be put off if you don't do kids magic because believe me Poz has a wealth of magic knowledge and is a thoroughly nice guy to boot.

If you are in interested pm me for more information.

Simon

I have never and will never perform childrens magic as Bananafish already knows but as far as I'm concerned, Poz is a legend and I can't wait to see his lecture.
This will basically take me back to my childhood as I used to go to Caister Holiday Camp every year with my grandparents and Poz was the entertainer there for as long as I can remember. I even have the photo (which I will bring with me on Monday) to prove it!!

I'm really looking forward to it!!

I attended a Poz lecture last year and like many, children's magic is not my cup of tea. However the lecture was certainly entertaining and nostalgic. There's some good commedy and tips that can be used to present most other forms of magic.

I think that there is a general misconception that Children's magic is fairly easy as kids are often easier to fool. Those who have tried to, or do perform for children will know that this is definately NOT the case and all too often they are far more observant than the adults. Poz gives a good insight into just how hard you have to work when entertaining children.

Worth going along.

Poz was the magician who started me in magic, at my fifth birthday in 1973. A couple of years ago I called him on my 35th birthday to say thanks, and we had a great chat! He even called me back the next day, having dug out his old diaries, and told me all about that show!

I've been trying to meet him again for the last twenty years. Perhaps one day I will...

Take care, Ian

Doesn't this just highlight one of the lesser talked about aspects of being a magician? A good magician will often be the catalyst as to why others go into magic. Just think if it wasn't for Poz (or magicians as good as) then the likes of Ian and Capt. F may not have got into magic at all. What a great loss.

So that must also be true in many other cases. What about Michael Ammar? did he see a magician as a child and think that's for me? What if he hadn't have done? or worse still what if the person he had seen wasn't as amazing as he was - that could have ben tragic for magic.

So just think when you are performer, you have the potential of the next generation of magicians at YOUR fingertips. A big responsibility isn't it?

I totally agree with Bananafish and his post is so thought provoking.

For me it's all about that very first positive impression and at the right moment these things can be life changing.

You can have ten people watching a show. Four can't see what the fuss is about, four can enjoy the show so much that they will go to see another and two can see something that the other 8 cannot see that will inspire them so much that they want to become performers themselves.

You never know what people will see and think and whether they would have felt the same if they had been watching the same thing but at a different time.

Sounds a bit like fate if you believe in it
