Double Decker

Postby It_Came_From_Space » Nov 14th, '05, 20:49

This is an effect by David Forrest where by you take out a pack of Bicycle cards, which appears normal, from its case. You then remove ANOTHER deck from the same case!

Does anyone have this effect?

If you do i would very much appreciate a review on it or at least someone answering the question can both decks be used?

There is a demo on David Forrest's web site.
www.full52.com

Both decks look incredibly realistic, but it is not obvious whether either can be used as a normal deck. (Notice that the ribbon spread of the second deck only allows a partial view of the cards.)

I think you can forget the idea that both decks would be usable, but it would be good if one of them was.

Also David Regal sells Disposable Deck which is similar

Hello,

Just wanted to let you know that the second deck that is removed from the case is 100% regular in every way and can be used for all your favourite card effects. The first deck is not regular but, as you see in the demo, it is pretty realistic. You can riffle force a card, spread through them a little and even overhand shuffle with practice.

The manuscript covers several effects and ideas and but I'm sure you'll come up with your own uses too.

I occasionally converse through e-mail with David Regal and he really liked 'Double Decker'. In fact, it's his quote on the front cover:

"This really is very clever!" - David Regal

It may bare some simlarities to the 'Disposable Deck' but the effects are entirely different. Also, David has a brilliant sleight of hand method for removing two decks from the same case. I think it's in 'Star Quality' if anyone is interested.

Anyway, just wanted to clear that up. Thanks for the interest and if you have any questions just e-mail me.

Many thanks,

Dave.

Thanks for that David, and welcome to Talk Magic. I have only ever heard good things about your effects.

As far as I am concerned you are one of the great innovators of magic (and beside anyone who has David Regal as a friend can't be all bad). :)

Just out of interest, I believe there is a similar effect as described in this thread supplied with the Mini- Black Tiger cards. If I remember correctly The effect is that you take out one deck from the box - but it doesn't match the box (ie a normal deck from a black tiger box), you then take out the regular black tiger cards, and finally, you take out a deck of the mini cards. All decks are real decks.

I could be wrong, but that is how I remember it at the moment...

Hi bananafish,

Wow, that does sound impressive. I'm not really familiar with the mini black tigers (I think I have a regular deck of Black Tigers around somewhere that someone sent me in the mail) but I'd like to know more about that effect if anyone has any more details.

Cheers,

Dave.

I picked this up a little while back, and it is seriously good! Took a little while to construct, but the booklet is very clear with the instructions and also includes a big heap of photos, so all is good, and now I've made it up, it's a killer trick - a great opener, I think.

Removing the second deck from the case is a great "shock" production that people just don't expect!

Nice work David :D
