Carl Cloutier's Bill in Kiwi

Postby Pitto » Jan 18th, '06, 21:58

This is my first review so I hope it is OK.

‘Carl Cloutier’s Bill in Kiwi’ 2 DVD set. It’s a Magic Makers product.

It cost £26.97 from www.penguinmagic.co.uk

If you want to see a clip: http://www.penguinmagic.com/europe/brow ... tring=kiwi

Nonsense from the back of the DVD:

‘You are about to learn the signature routine and secret of a world champion magician; Carl Cloutier…
A spectator’s signed bill vanishes and reappears in a kiwi held by a spectator. This illusion is so powerful that it becomes magic right before your audience’s eyes…

And… you get a second DVD containing 10 more world champion routines with step by step instruction from Carl Cloutier.

What you get:

You get 2 DVDs on DVD1 is the Bill in kiwi routine and an explanation.

On DVD 2:

Sports Ball Routine – small balls change colour, vanish and reappear.

Bounce NO Bounce – a fairly amusing routine where Carl tells the audience that the balls can tell him things about the person who bounces them. He then proceeds to take the Mick out of a member of the audience.

Traveller – Four signed cards to pockets

Slimfast Routine- Signed cards appear in a sealed can.

Pepper Routine – A signed handkerchief vanishes and is foun in a pepper held by the spectator.

Magazine Routine – A tord and restored magazine page.

Cards Across – It’s a Classic.

Liquid Asset – a glass filled with water vanishes and reappears in the magicians pocket.

Coin Trick – Coins appear disappear grow etc.

Let me say straight away (without saying too much) if you don’t have a toppit (like me) and you don’t like sleeving (like me) DO Not buy this DVD all the tricks rely on one of these two.

If you don’t like preparation (like me) This is not for you most things need preparation.

However, these routines are powerful. If you don’t mind the above and you do stage magic this is for you.

The teaching is good and Carl explains everything well. He explains why you have to have the cards counted twice on a particular routine and the reason can be applied to any trick so that was good.

Also, Im not sure it is worth the money as everthind revolves around 1 sleight like Blaine and the DL.

For me it is a disappointing 4/10 (the 4 is for watching the performance)

If you don’t mind the above it’s a 8/10

Difficulty depends on whether you can use a toppit and sleeve – I expect about a 4/5 (1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Nice first review Pitto.

I've not seen this particular DVD but £27.00 appears a little steep, particularly for a Magic Makers product.

If you want a good Bill in Kiwi Routine then there's a great one on Martin Sandersson's Corporate Close Up Routine and there's a few other good routines included for about a tenner less.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
