Mind Mysteries Volume 2

Richard Osterlind's Mind Mysteries Volume 2 deals entirely with The Breakthrough Card System. If you were to look at Magicmandan's review of it above, you will find that it received a perfect score of 10. Something extremely rare for the Daily Review.

From my knowledge, there are three sources for learning the BCS. The self titled book by Osterlind, the self-titled 20th anniversary edition ebook, and Mind Mysteries volume 2.

First off, I'd like to explain what exactly the breakthrough card system is.

(No you won't. Text deleted by Mods. Scudge - this is exposure and you've been warned already about this kind of thing. Please do not reveal such explicit detail here. In any event, the BCS has already been well reviewed.)

There are five absolutely amazing effects taught on this DVD to go with the BCS. You have to see these to believe them. The following descriptions are entirely true, nothing has been added or taking away. What you see, is what actually happens....

Card Calling: You fan the cards and tell the spectator to remove a clup of cards, whether it be 6, 7, 8, etc. As they do, you turn your back and hand the remaining cards to a second spectator, or you can put them away, it doesn't matter. With your back turned, you tell the spectator to mix and shuffle her cards, and spread them so she can see each face. You tell her to move her eyes back and forth and look at each card. You then proceed to use the power of your mind to name each card she is holding, as she looks at them!

Two Cards in Pocket: You give the deck a shuffle and a few cuts, and hand it to a spectator. You tell her to give the deck a cut, and you turn your back. You tell her to repeatedly cut the cards at different points of the deck until she is sick of cutting. With your back still turned, you tell her to take the top card without looking at it, and to put it in her right pocket. Then to take the second, and without looking at it, put it in her left pocket. You then turn around, tell her to put the cards back in their box or hand them to someone else. You then slowly and surely name two cards. Lets say, the 3 of Spades and the 7 of diamonds. You ask the spectator which card do you think is in which pocket. Let's say she says "3 of spades in right pocket." You look at her, and with not bullsh*t, simply say "Take it out." She reaches into her right pocket, and of course, pulls out the 3 of spades. Then to conclude, reaches into her let pocket, and pulls out the 7 of diamonds.

Challenge Mind Reading You tell the spectator to simply think of any card. You hand her the deck and you turn your back. You tell her to fan through the cards untill she finds her thought-of card, and you tell her to cut it to the face, where if she wants she could show others. The main reason for having the card at the face of the pack is because this way, the mentalist will see niether the front or back of the card, just incase it was a marked pack. Before turning around, you tell her to burry her card into the center. You turn around and with no beating around the bush, name her card.

Corinda Effect You hand the spectator the cards, and tell her to held them under the table and to give the a few cuts. You then tell her to take either the top or bottom card, turn it face up and poke it somewhere into the middle, then to turn the whole deck face up, and lay it on the table, and cover it with a card box. You have your hand over the card box, and name for instance, the 3 of clubs. You tell the spectator to spread the cards and turn over the only face down card. It is the 3 of clubs.

Blackjack Demonstration This is a game of blackjack, where you get the spectators to be players in a blackjack game, and you proceed to tell what each palyer has in his hand.

Amazed yet? This is some of the hardest hitting card magic and mentalism possible! I perform the first three of these effects everywhere I go. The last two not so much, mainly because they both require a table, and the second requires multiple spectators. Either way, the 2 Cards in Pocket is without a doubt one of my favorite things I perform right now. Just read the effect again!

The DVD is just simply amazing. All though the books which have pretty much the same content are much cheaper, I'd still recommend the DVD. Osterlind's performence of these five effects are nearly worth the price alone. And in this DVD, you'll see some of the best reactions you'll ever witness from Jon Cooke, from any L&L DVD.

I know this was quite a lengthy review, so I doub;t many of you will read it, but if you read anything, please just read the effects listed above. Especially 2 Cards in pocket. That effect is simply unbelievable.

To any mentalist or magician... dear god, buy these now!

From now on, I carry a deck stacked with the BCS wherever I go!

9.5/10

I have been thinking about getting this one for a long time. Every review I read like this puts it closer and closer to the top of my list.

This stack is one of the few items of magic I have bought. It really is good. You can hand the stacked cards to anyone for inspection - they will not spot the system. The stack is very easily memorized. It will take your less than 20mins to learn the system.
