Blackstones are legends but not my cup of tea. Top 20 maybe but not my top 10...

What makes a magician great, is it not a personal choice, how many times do you watch or read a survey and disagree with the result.

The thing with magicians and magic is that there are an finite number of ways to achieve an effect. It is harder and harder to come up with something new, almost always an effect is a variation/refinement of something that has gone before or joining principles together to get a new effect.

So are magicians the greatest for coming up with the principles or seeing a new way to use them.

Ps I would like to add Tommy Cooper in to the list. In my opinion he is the perfect all round entertainer, what magic is for.

nah, mine would include Blaine probably. if you just forget about the last few years and judge him just on his street magic and his amazing character. and for revitalising magic for a new generation of tele watchers.
although now i guess its Mr Brown's turn!
bring back the card magicians!!

Just browsing the areas on a very slow saturday night, nothing worth watching on telly and as its January after overspending at chrimbo, I have no £££, it got me thinking and here is my 2 cents worth...

In no particular order...

1. Jerry Sadowitz - I like his performance style. His humour appeals to me, and his books are brilliant.
2. Jeff McBride - One of the few stage magicians that I would travel a long way to see.
3. Michael Ammar - Not a massive fan of his ETMCM dvd's, although I own some (dont we all?) But after seing him lecture, I have not seen a more friendly approachable professional since.
4. Nick Einhorn - Just a widely talented perfomer. Very good spectator control, and inventor of "Spooked" an effect I always close my routine with.
5. Derren Brown - For just being so entertaining, and doing his own thing. I discovered a new level of respect for him after my better half bought me the Devils picture book for Christmas.
6. Harry Lorraine - This man has written some of the greatest card magic books ever (IMHO) I really think that his books are invaluable.
7. Daryl - No explanation needed really. A widely talented guy.
8. Paul Daniels - Love him or hate him, has anyone done more for magic in the UK than this man?
9. David Blaine - Reignited my intrest in street magic, just wifh he would stop the stupid stunts.
10. Jay Sankey - Revolutionary Card Magic is my most treasured and protected DVD.

Only 10? I could go on for ages, ooops I already have!
