It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Thanks Seige. That is a nice idea and one I started using after you first posted it (seems so long ago now).

One variation I sometimes do when table hopping (ie, I have to be prepared for it), is to use the Richard Sanders method so that after changing it into a £20, I can change it into a £10 before changing it back to the receipt. The receipt I have isn't borrowed and is for £9.99, so the £10 is still too much.

For me, it makes it into a slightly longer piece, and goes down very well at tables.

If it is for £9.99, then couldn't you roll up a penny in the £10 note (I am vaguely aware of the Sanders method, I believe it uses 2 of a standard gimmick), the penny with the £10 note would fit in the gimmick together.

So when you produce the £10 you also have "and the penny change, makes £9.99".

Might be worth a try
