Hmm. that makes sense. When i was studying Biology at University someone asked about Nessie and the Prof said what you have. Impossible for it to be a fish or mammal.

That submarine idea was used as the plot of a Sherlock Holmes film involving his brother, Mycroft Holmes, (Robert Stephens, Christopher Lee etc) where Sherlock hinted that he was gay but mainly as a method of avoiding the over amorous attentions of a Russian Ballerina of frightening intent and appearance! The occupants of the sub were midgets who disappeared from a touring circus, the foe were still German but it was set in Victorian times and even featured Queen V. herself at Urquhart Castle. All very hokey but very entertaining.

Actually, I much prefer the idea of a non mammalian Nessie and, until they drain the Loch completely and positively prove otherwise, I'll give Nessie's existence in one form or another the benefit of the doubt.

i went to loch ness a few weeks ago, has anyone been to the lochness experience thing at the north end of the loch.
i forget the name of the village.
as well as being completely rubbish it actually convinced me once and for all that there is no monster and there is no reasonable reason to suspect that there might be.
well that told the tourists..

The village is called Drumnadrochit.

The exhibition is partly hosted by Adrian Shine, a bit of a beardy scientist cliche' who was and wasn't a believer depending upon the direction of the wind. He makes money from the legend by 'dispelling' it and professing to be the "on hand expert" as well for any tv crew that come along.

Sorry? What was that? Oh... how do you spell cynical exploitation?

Also, if you notice, the very next thing you go through after this "experience" crushes any fantasy or fun its 100k visitors ...is a fecking nessie gift shop!!!!!! There you can buy all the same tat you can get anywhere else. Still...at least they don't just grab the money then spit in the face of the visitors while also running the big hotel and restaurant next door.

Well its interesting to read all these weird and wacky idea's about the loch ness monster. I live in Inverness which is about 2 miles from the loch. I visit the loch quite often as its the most beautiful place you can find.

I have never seen the monster myself although many might think i am the monster when they see me paddling in the loch with my daughter( there's a nice beach at the Dores side of the loch). My aunt claimed to have seen it when she was a young girl and she aint the type to lie so i believe her.

Due to the size of the loch i dont see why nessie cant live in it. some thing that is 26miles long and 1 mile wide with a depth deeper than the artic ocean at some points there must be plenty places to hide.

So take it from me nessie is alive and well living just down the road.

james (highlander)

And nobody up here has Glasgow accents like you hear in the very bad movie Loch ness.

Dores is a lovely little village and exactly where the longest corroborated sighting took place.

I saw in 2004 on the pebble beach at Dores to the sound of a piper playing in the new year on the jetty at the rear of the Dores inn while fireworks danced off the surface of the moon lit Loch.

THAT'S magic!

According to Teletext page 131 today, Channel 5 commisioned a 16ft animatronic Nessie (called Lucy) costing £100,000 and operated it in the loch for 2 weeks. The idea was to see the reactions of the public (where have we heard that before?) and the prgramme, The Ultimate Experiment, airs on August 28th.

Hahaha! Why do I find that so funny!?!?!
"It wasn't Nessie... It was Lucy!!!!! OF COURSE!!!"

Coming from Scotland, I dont know much about nessie other than it may or may not exist but someone mentioned haggis earlier :P ... I remember once convincing an Irish (actually Irish.. no silly stereotype!) girl on holiday that my sister and I always go out hunting haggis at night. I cant remember many details but it was such an elaborate story that we couldn't believe she fell for it. She also bought the story that my sister once dropped me into a large vat of tar before covering me in feathers though... Seriously!!!!
