Deos anyone owen Mental Masterpieces by Larry Becker

Hi there,

If anyone owns this video, could you let me know? I have it and have a query regarding the performance of one of the effects.

(If you don't own this video then this post will make no sense - sorry  )

Could someone drop me a PM with reference to the following:

Cheers, :D

It is for the Calender Caper effect:

Q- How do you handle the spec being born in December? Does the chance of this occurring put you off performing this effect?

The way Larry performs it, I feel that the audience would think it obvious that the magician knows if the spec was born in Dec - as no cards would be placed back onto the pack behind his back. He would then automatically know it was Dec – and I fear that the audience would see this too. Plus the spectator might get confused and say “well what if I don’t have any cards left” – again blowing the fact it was the month of Dec.

Second question: Do you worry what the specs think about the need for the cards placed in the box? There is no mention to it later in the routine – when I first watched the routine I thought - hang on – what was the point of that….I bet it was to ….

Cheers

Hrm...just off the top of my head - and I don't have the effect - how about asking when you go up to a group of people, "Anyone born in December, like me?". If you get a yes then use that person as the spectator for the next effect, but you'll know that the rest of them aren't born in December.

That's great!

I often forget to 'think laterally' - but sometimes that produces the best magic doesn't it!

Cheers!
