Was looking into getting this classic and there doesn't seem to be a review of it.

Has anyone got it? and if so is it worth it, how close up, angles etc?

I've wondered about this trick in the past - I was sure I knew how this was done, but having seen it on penguin http://www.penguinmagic.com/europe/product.php?ID=169 It says on there: "No latex or fake skin and, no, you don't penetrate your arm!"

Well that blows my theory of latex/false skin out of the window
Logic would suggest that it's just a covering of some kind on the arm, but I've been conned too many times by some magic trick or other, to know that logic doesn't help much when trying to suss out how a trick is done

It's a great effect, although, as I've mentioned before, I'm not 'compatible' fully with this type of effect for one reason or another!

The blood is optional. You don't HAVE to gross out the audience. But in the right circumstances, it's great

Also, in the right place, you can pretty much get right under a speccy's nose with the illusion.

And I've heard that Andrew Mayne's 'shock FX' is a great compliment to this type of effect, too

Do you know what this "shock fx" thing is? Or where I can see a demo of it.
Because if needle thru arm turns out to be everything I want it to be I might want to check out Shock FX.

As far as needle thru arms goes if I manage to make someone puke or faint then I will consider it a remarkable success. Yes it may get me banned from the restaurant but it may be well worth it. Keep an eye on the newpapers for a story involving vomiting people at a restaurant.

with this needle thru arm, do you buy it once and can do it forever, or do you keep needing to buy a prop as it gets used up?

also how examinable is the arm before, during and after?

Recieved it this morning. Read the instructions and I will post a review later on once I've practiced it and performed it on some unsuspecting friends over dinner (ok over dinner probably not a good idea).
But in quick answer to the questions I think you arm is pretty examinable before...not totally (can be if you are sneaky) but is completely examinable after (according to the instructions). As far as props go you will need to buy one extra item but should be relatively cheap and I suppose there is other things that will be used up as you perform but they are inexpensive and long lasting.

Actually, there's no suspicion at all about what you are about to do if you 'launch' into the effect as described, so examining the arm BEFORE isn't a question... The nicest presentation is to burst a balloon to prove the needle is real, and then just hike up your sleeve and go.

The blood gives justification for the wipe, etc.

However... a good convincer, imho, is before piercing your arm, take a small sachet tissue like they use at the doctors when taking blood and mimic 'sterilising' the needle. You can use the same sachet afterwards for the clean up, should you not want to use blood. There's less suspicion, because you'd used it beforehand too.

Also, bear in mind that in terms of 'clean endings' this effect is self-cleaning, and the cleanup is justified by the routine.

You are, of course, unharmed at the end of the effect.
