Some guidance re: the Mind Spy V's Stealth Assassin

Postby Nathan_Howard » Jan 30th, '06, 01:08

Hello There,

I’ve been putting together a mentalism routine - only amateur but it’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was 13 and began presenting magic shows around the hotels in Blackpool. Now in my mid thirties and having missed the boat as far as becoming the next Robert Houdin (although I did make it as screenwriter - worse luck lol!), I’m trying to find some educated advice on a few little gems that I would like to pick up. Is it possible that anybody here could help me?

To begin with, I would like to get a wallet for everyday use but I don’t know which of the two that I’ve fallen in love with deserves my genuine attention when translated off the page? I’ve heard that the Stealth Assassin is wonderful but can it be used just as fully and diversely as the Mind Spy? The latter is often described as the Mentalist’s Swiss Army Knife, but does the same genuinely apply to the Stealth Assassin? I would love to be able to carry a really dazzling, routine-building piece of kit in my pocket, so is the Stealth Assassin or the Mind Spy the item to have?

Secondly, in terms of clipboards and impression pads, is Nelson’s Ultra Perfect Clipboard or Nyman’s Pro-Folio the better buy? I know the latter had a peek built in with an allegedly difficult impression device, while the former is just an impression device full point. If you where going to buy one or the other then which one would you prefer if you were limited to a £100 budget? Remember, I’m not trying to be Steve Shaw but just entertain friends, the friends of my friends and also my family.

As a third point, I’ve just picked-up Final Flashback and Double Vision from B&E as I couldn’t refuse a lazy-fella’s booktest (plus I also have the BIP for close-up stuff which has been great). My question subsequently concerns Double Feature and if it is worth picking up along with the other B&E material? Is it just a repeat of the ideas I’ve already bought and if so, should I let my credit card off the hook?

The last question is a long ask but does anyone here have CHAOS by Menny Lindenfeld? There is a link to it here and it looks interesting:

Best Wishes,

Nathan.

Forget The Mind Spy and go with The Assasin. You won't regret it at all.
I've been using The Assasin for the last month and having used The Mind Spy and the original Stealth, it beats both hands down. It literally can be used for about 20 minutes to half hours worth of routines and all would seem perfectly off the cuff. Don't forget ofcourse that this wallet also comes with 2 packed DVDs full of original ideas for the wallet. If you only picked 2 or 3 routines from these, you literally have an act in your pocket. There is then the bonus of access to the forum for Stealth Assasin owners where there are even more great ideas from people using the wallet in everyday situations.

I use The Stealth Assasin as an everyday wallet and people think nothing of it as it looks like a typical hip wallet.

As for impression pads, I don't know a lot about Andy Nyman's Pro-folio but I've heard it is an excellant piece of kit. Personally I use Scott Creasey's 'First Impressions' pad. This is probably one of the best things (bar The Assasin) that I have bought for ages and really is a mentalists dream and I'm sure my good friend Bananafish would back me up on that as well as I know he has had some excellant results from using it.

I've just bought (a couple of weeks ago) Double Feature but haven't had the time to get to grips with it yet. I know it's more of the same when it comes to Becker and Earl but to be perfectly honest, if you're doing a book test routine, it does give you a couple more books for the spectator to choose from and then you can go into what ever routine for that selection. Personally I love book test so I can't get enough of them!!

Hope this helps and good luck with your mentalsm routine!!

I totally concur with everything Capt. Fantastic says. With a Stealth Assassin Wallet and one of Scott Creasey's First Impression Pads you are loaded to go with a whole mentalist act.

The more mentalism you do, the more you are going to be stopped and asked to show something, and with just these two items (that I carry on my person at all times) you are always set to go with not just one, but a whole variety of effects. Effects that are strong whether it be just one person or a whole group of people.

The mindspy was good, but I always prefered the hip style wallet anyway, so I always went for a Stealth Wallet and now the Stealth Assassin opens so more more possibilities.
