Cut and restore Rope

Postby Magic J' » Nov 21st, '05, 12:10

The Effect

A spectator has a long piece of rope, of which he cuts in half, the then shows the 2 seperate halves and after a bit of hocus pocus the rope has restored itself!

Cost

free (or around £5 for instructions)

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

3 - This is a very easy trick to learn, and is great when you get 2 people on stage to hold either side of the rope.

Review
This is a good trick to learn, there are lots of variations, i.e. the cut and restored tie, and Penn and Tella's SNAKE Version, a real crowed puller!

Overall

Over i'll give this trick a rating of 8 out of ten, i do not perform this trick very often, but when i do the audience enjoy, well so ive heard!

Thanks, please leave your thoughts of this trick, J'

Rope trick

Postby MagicTom » Nov 21st, '05, 17:26

Free - Not if you add price of rope and scissors! lol jkin

The audience do enjoy this one. I like this trick because its so easy to invlove the audience with.

J' always gets 2 kids to come and hold either end of the rope. By the end of it most of the kids are shouting with amazement too!

I like torn and restored. I'm going to review my paper tear and restore!

If you can play to an audience, I've always found that a cut / no cut pair of scissors is a great addition to this routine.

This sounds interesting. Though 56 years old and semi-retired, I am a true neophyte when it comes to perfroming magic. Also, I live on the other side of the big pond from most of you (I live in southeastern Georgia, USA).

Can anyone direct me to a source for this type of gag scissors...I assume that is what is meant here.

Thanks in advance,

James Gornto

I bought mine from here but it's in the UK.

http://mikedanatasmagicstudio.co.uk

I bought a really good quality pair which cost me around £35 if my memory serves me right (about $60) but I don't know about shipping costs from the UK.

I would have thought that a good US based magic supplier would be able to source them for you without too much of a problem.

I should say that although they are a gag, they are also real tailors scissors. Very heavy and very sharp. The gag is that the spec can't open them and when you do, they then can't close them to cut. There's a very cunning technique to using them properly.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I have done a search for cut/no cut scissors and have gotten a number of hits, but they have all been for scissors that apparently fall apart or break in some manner when you attempt to use tjem. Ihese may be perfectly acceptable for use with the cut rope routine, but I am stil hoping to find the sort of scissors that were mentioned in the reply just prior to this one (where the scissors seemingly can't be opend).

I am probably not doing a good enough job of entering the proper search criteria in the search engine. I will try again.

Thanks again for the replies!

Can I suggest that you log onto Mike's site and send him an email. He's a nice and helpful guy!

I know that Mike has many contacts in the States and he may well be able to assist you.

The set that I bought off Mike is top notch. Fantastic quality and it looks like they're also an investment!

Good luck.

OK

In response to your PM, I'm posting online as this may be of interest to others.

The scissors are called EF cut - no cut scissors (label on the box) and are made in India. There is no other information regarding their origin other than they have been modified. There is a reference to previous models sold by the Supreme Magic Co. of England. That's about it I'm afraid.

As stated, these scissors DO NOT fall apart and they are precision made and used carefully they should last a lifetime. They operate as a normal pair of scissors in the hands of the magician.

That's all that I can tell you about them.

Thanks for the photo and the additional information. The mention of "EF" made it very easy for me to find a source for this pair of scissors here in the U.S.

Thanks again!
