MY ROPE AND A RING

Postby dat8962 » Feb 3rd, '06, 21:11

Encouraged by the responses to my previous video post here's another rope routine that I've been working on for a few weeks.

As before, please note that the ropes and the ring are ungimmicked! No magnets, rope glue or invisible fibre welding.

This is a different type of rope routine than Fibre Optics and it's one that is not as fast paced but hopefully as enjoyable. Fibre Optics is all about rope transitions with the ropes constantly changing whereas this routine is about rope and ring penetrations.

Hopefully, each compliments the other.

I'd like to mention that the part where the ring is cut from the rope with the scissors whould normally happen in the hands of a spectator who would be holding the rope on one hand and the ring in the other hand. I didn't have a spec to hand at the time of recording

Finally, once again I've recorded this without any patter so that I can fit the footage into a slightly over seven minute performance and an 24.8Mb file (phew).

Here goes (once again the intro was done without a script):

Remember, all feedback gratefully received. Oh, and finally, the music is dedicated to Demitri

I like - very very good! I can tell, and i expect many others can too, that you have practiced a lot on your rope effects!

Keep at it boy! well done!

Another wonderful foray into your mind, Dave.

I'm not a huge fan of rope magic, but you're quickly making me change my mind. I don't know much about rope magic, so I don't know how much variation and performance is "your own" - but if your introductory videos are any indication, you should seriously contemplate stopping your posting of them on here - and compiling them onto a dvd. Hell - I'd pick up a copy!

The introduction part is equally as powerful. I can't stress enough how unique it is to get such an in-depth reasoning behind your choices and changes to existing routines.

The routine itself was excellent. Just when I thought I might be catching on, you'd pull out those scissors or do a new move and completely throw me for a loop. I must say I enjoy watching almost purely as a spectator. The lack of knowledge makes your performances all the more powerful and entertaining.

Outstanding videos. And thank you for the dedication. Excellent music choice.

Thanks Demitri.

If you ask most rope magicians and they give you an honest answer, I'm sure that they will tell you that just about every move and sleight that you can do with a rope has been invented. What makes your own presentation truly 'yours' is the order in which you put them (well at least that's what I think anyway).

In my presentations there is quite a lot of, and some fairly significant changes from the originals but not sufficient in my opinion for me to get away without giving credits where they are due. As stated, I ALWAYS try to avoid just performing a direct copy of something if I can, or if there is a good reason not to change.

I'll be producing one more and final rope video over the next day or two and I'll explain exectly why my presentation of this one hasn't been changed at all.

Thanks again for your kind words.
