how to spin the humming card

Postby nikyas » Feb 7th, '06, 15:48

Hi,
i just bought the humming card magic from ebay. They gave me a booklet, (and other items). I tried to follow the instruction but i am still struggling to make the card spin in the air. I'm also struggling to make it spin from one hand to another.

is there any special trick to do it?

thank you!

Hi and welcome to TM. Unfortunately we can't advise on how to do these things so, if the instructions aren't clear, you should really contact the supplier and ask them for further information.

Penguin items are usually good quality but sometimes their items are copies of the originals and there have been issues with one or two people who sell their magic via Penguin. There was a long thread about all this here last year - if you use the Search function above for 'Penguin Magic problem' you'll be able to read through and decide for yourself.

Do you mean Hummer? It would help if you posted a link to a site selling the trick.

Anyway, if you mean the trick where a card is spun along its plane horizontal to the floor, around the body, then I think I know the one you mean. Unfortunately, you've just exposed how such a trick could be done: we don't tend to do that in this game.

If you want to get the trick to work, then you need only one thing: practise. You just need lots of it. The problem with a lot of tricks like the Hummer is that they look easy, but until you get the knack, they are really fiendish. I suggest that you contact the seller and ask for advice (presumably the marketing with the trick was accurate: it didn't say it was easy, did it?), or watch the demonstrations that often come with such tricks. Using the demo videos and your knowledge of how it's supposed to work, you'll be OK. When you've mastered it, why not post a video for us to review?

(Searching on this site, it's quite amazing how many people want do know how this trick is performed).

Aporia is right!

The original instructions that come with the Hummer are printed in a pamphlet that's approximately A5 in size. They shouldn't be photocopied.

If you've bought the trick from ebay then you shouldn't want / need to buy it again. As previously stated, this is all about practice and the technique will come, assuming that you have the instructions.

Note from Mods - just in case it's too explicit and since the question is answered below, the nitty gritty has been changed to that!

Hello nikyas,
(note to everyone: is it ok to say what is used? isn't that sort of exposure?)
anyway, I've had this trick for a while but I bought it from magictricks.co.uk which is great because they also provide you with an additional help video which they made themselves, it's quite useful. about how you hide that, I had problems with this when I first started practising this trick. basically in my experience you have to try and use just enough tomake sure the card doesn't go flying off due to lack of it, BUT you also have to make sure it's not visible. I did this trick on a film project last summer and there was a massive Extreme close up on the card spining in mid air, and one smart *rse pointed out that there was sometihng sticking up from the card but no one else seemed to notice it.

so anyway, long story short, experiment with how hard you throw the card as that can effect how much of that you need to use. when you put it onto the card, try and push down as hard as you can without it being noticed. In my experience I've found that if you do this and don't thrash the card out away from you, it will keep the card securely attached without a problem.

Hope this helps! sorry i went on lol

-Nat.

Hummer cards are fine. If I find a card that's actually humming then I'm gonna keep away from it, it might be radioactive.

Cards which hum are useless - they obviously can't remember the words  .

I bought this trick like a month ago and altough I'm very persistent when it comes to practising tricks I really couldn't get the hang of it. Not even after reading the instructions again and again. So I put it back in my closet.

Now when I've read this I think I'm gonna pick it up again and start practising again... 8)

I still think the provided instructions aren't very clear though

Thanx!
