Well that's how it feels anyway. I did my first and only magic show at the tender age of 8 (to the two girls that lived next door but one) but have always been fascinated with magic and enjoy doing tricks in front of friends and family.

Though some may spurn me I would have to say that I have found David Blaine very inspirational as I have Derren Brown. I think they have brought the idea of the magician forward in the eyes of the average person from someone wearing a top hat and cloak (no offence if this is your attire - I often lounge around the house in similar clothing) to someone that can be both myserious and cool.

When I grow up I hope to be like them. :D

Hi Strep and welcome to TM.

No problem in learning from Blaine etc. but when you grow up, be yourself!

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

As you'll find if you trawl through the old posts, David Blaine has been criticised here for his stunts and publicity activities but he's also been applauded for the magic he does, the way he raised the profile of magic in general and for encouraging a lot of newcomers to this art. He seems a bit of a strange guy at times but so do many others!
