Gambling routines

Postby Demitri » Feb 11th, '06, 00:10

I recently got my hands on an old-fashioned looking card deck.

It's basically a bit of a nightmare for sleight of hand work (the cards are full back patterns with square edges) but with a bit more attention paid to handling, they still work nicely.

I was thinking of coming up with some effects that cater to this deck - sort of an old riverboat gambler style routine. Naturally, some poker routines instantly come to mind - but I was wondering if there was some material beyond poker.

So, I'm just sending out a call to see if anyone can point me in the right direction.

try looking for some stuff by Darwin Ortiz (Scams &Fantasies or At the card table) both books have the first half dedicated to "gambling" type effects..one word of warning though.. they are very sleight intensive but worth it if you have the skills

hmm. i went to the dollar store a long time ago and found some Bee playing cards that were used in casinos...

well i think they could be helpful in some tricks because people think the deck is legit and everything. but it is not very useful in some tricks cause the cards are made for "not cheating" in poker and what not.

thanks, Mog. I've been looking at these for a while, outside of this new idea I'm trying.

Are the gambling routines mostly centered around poker? Not that it's a deal-breaker - just curious.

Zero - I hear you on that. I bought a bunch of casino decks in Vegas (mostly just to build my own version of Perfect Strangers, and as collectibles) and while you can do some stuff, the casinos tend to cut the opposite corners now, making back to back doubles impossible.

Sal Piacente's Lecture Notes are FULL of effects which could be gambling based, as Sal's background is such.

Many of his routines/effects taught on the DVDs are perfect for this scenario, and aside from that, they are SUPERB
