Wow. Where to start? Well there are some effects in there claiming to be original but blatantly aren't. for example how can Healed and Sealed claim to have been ripped off by Crushed and Cured when this effect is something that hundreds of high school kids were taught in chemistry
To be fair though they routined it and turned it into magic so they can claim that.

Dynamic coins are combination of 2 other effects. Can you combine different effects then call it original? I don't know.

Pen Thru anything. This effect has been around for much longer than Cornelious's version. It just used to use glue or pins or something else. I buy the perfect pentration for £6. Many reputable suppliers sell this version so why should I pay £30 for John's it is identical so why the higher price?

Dlites, blatantly Rocco's and noone else should sell it but when Rocco himself stands at the counter after his shows flogging them to spectators what does he expect.

Tenyo are just as guilty of ripping as they are of being ripped so screw them.

Loops!! I can't believe the egyptian wizards that did the dancing cane didn't use these.

Surely you can't paint the 3 shell monte gold then claim originality. If thats the case I'm going to paint everything gold and call it mine.

Thought transmitter, Don't get me started another shoddy overpriced product by John Cornelius.

Sorry but a good half of the effects there don't deserve to be called either original or value for money.

It's a bit pricey, but I like my thought transmitter.

To be fair I always whereever possible try to buy the original and credit the creator but as this page proves it is much easier said than done.
I imagine a lot of us have plenty of rip offs in our drawers that we aren;t even aware are rip offs. I got my dynamic coins from Marvin. I thought they were a classic and had no idea that they were rip offs.

What about the money paddle? Can you just stick stuff to a paddle and call it a 'new effect'?

I bought my clear finger chopper from Tenyo. From this list it would appear its a rip off. Should I now assume all Tenyo stuff is a rip off?

I reckon I have a reasonable amount of knowledge but it's still a minefield for me the beginner doesn't stand a chance.

As well as paying the higher price for original stuff we ahve to go out of our way to find out if it's the real deal or not? Sorry but I will only shop at repetuable dealers and I expect them to have done that job for me.

I am shocked to discover that Magicbox's Pen thru anything (perfect pentration) isn't by or authorised by the creator.

It's very pricey and much lower quality than the mind reader wallet which is being presented here as a rip off.

But if they combine the thought transmitter with a leather wallet it's a ripoff but when someone combines Dlites with ears it's okay?

An absolute minefield. Feels like my head is going to explode just attempting to get round it.

Sorry, you'll need to talk with the inventor of the Head Exploder (c) and get some written permission before you do that.

If there were just one or two cases, I'd be prepared to suspiciously accept a plea of co-evolution, but there are simply too many! People are definitely trading off original work with their own ideas. I suppose this is what's wrong with copyright law as it stands now. You can protect your impementation of an idea, but not the idea itself. Mind you, how would that be policeable?

Nice of the site to expose how D'lites work.

My thoughts on some of that stuff is how I'm glad I haven't bought it. The dice box with the huge black lid looks especially hookey to me. Hmm, I wonder how it works ... (My opinion, I've not seen it, am prepared to be wrong, I accept that it's all in the handling and that children will probably like it)

alledgedly the idea behind these was Jay Scott Berrys.. or so he told me

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Oh please don't start that again. :D

Actually, in pure evolutionary terms you would be surprised how often this happens.

From a creative point of view, how many times have you had a great idea, only to find someone else has had it before you? There are very few original ideas.

I don't doubt that some of these are knock offs, but I think we have to accept that co-evolution happens more regularly than we would like to believe. How many times on a forum have we had someone show off their latest creation, only to have someone declare "oh yes, I was working on a similar idea."?

You're probably right. I haven't really thought about this very deeply. It just seems odd, I suppose. Funny old world, innit :o

Tomo, I don't know if I'm right. I just like to give people the benefit of the doubt (in most cases) as its what I would expect them to give me.
