I know most of you will be thinking when you read this - how thick.

I want to know how to spin a card between my fingers as shown here http://www.magictricks.co.uk/prodshow.asp?code=119 on the ambitious card routine just before he puts the card in the deck. Most people say its done just like you think. I cant get my head round it usually i can work out tricks or parts of them i have a mentel block with this simple flourish.

Does anyone know where i can learn it without going back over a lot of beginner stuff.

Pitto

PS is it taught in card college as im saving up for the full set

First, practise balancing a card on your middle fingertip.

When you can do that easily, gently place your thumb on top of the card. opposite your middle fingertip.
Place your index fingertip on the face of the card (assuming the card is face down).
Pull your index finger towards you about an inch.
The card should spin.

Eventually.

And No, I can't do it!! :D

When I do it, I just get half a rotation. I think Stevebo can do this, so maybe he can give us some useful tips :D

One tip that I found useful: when you start to learn the card spin the card will spin wonkily and you'll only get about half to a quarter rotation before it falls off your finger. The reason is either a) you didn't have the card properly balanced on your middle finger, or b) you didn't pull evenly with your thumb and index finger. Start off very slowly and add the amount of spin bit by bit.

Hope that helps,

Kati

The key point here is balance. When I do it, the card is just resting on my middle finger, and the thumb practically feels like it isn't touching the card (you could slip a Rizla paper in the gap, that's about it!)

It's a bit like spinning a basketball on your index finger... I can't personally do that, but people who can have just tried and tried and tried and eventually found the sweet spot.

Most card backs have a visual clue to the centre of the card. Aim at the centre, spin gently, and just keep trying. I always found with anything like this that sitting watching a film or something on TV is a good time to practice a move like this, because it seems to lessen the tedium ;)

(The tedium of the TV or the repetition of the learning?—Hmmmm... depends what I'm watching!)
