I would ditch the uncle routine and go for something a little more credible.

In fact, I've performed it as a pure 'kinetic energy' effect to family—which runs pre-talk patter along the lines of being able to summon up enough curiousity to make people's imagination do all the work for me.

Pre conditioning them to be a little less rigid in their disbelief by flexing their imagination a little!

The way I do this is to talk about fear of the dark. Fear that, as a kid, you didn't like turning the light off. Fear that when walking alone down dark streets, you imagine eyes watching you. Fear that when you walk up the stairs, alone, there is something left behind at the bottom.

Ask them to close their eyes—go 'to the dark'.

Worked a treat for me.

I use the fear of the dark routine as well. But i have used the example of walking through a haunted house ride at a theme park. Pitch black, you have a feeling that someone is watching, following you and could jump out and touch you at any point.

Anything which pre-conditions the spectator into thinking about fear. The reactions are much stronger with a mass hysteria too—not only is the spectator being conditioned, but so is the rest of the crowd.

Therefore, if the spectator shrieks or freaks out, so does some of the crowd—it's like a psychological Mexican wave.

A perfect prelude to ANOTHER spooooooky effect or show of mentalism?

Gary Sumpter has some excellent thoughts and suggestions on this (and other effects) in his 'Shivers' booklet - it was reviewed here last year.

my pktouch main centre piece was the lamp itself..
I usually try to give a lot of attention to the lamp itself before when I proceed to direct them to the shadow..

hardly any speech..

wanted to inject some drama
