I saw it too, I think it was on Dirty Tricks. One of the few highlights for me, but lets not drag all that up again. I think this was a routine by Tom Mullica, and I don't think it can be bought anywhere. I may be mistaken though. As far as I know, it's REALLY painful, so good luck!!

I saw this too and there is also a version performed by Pete Firman, although he didn;t seem to be able to 'swallow' nearly as many ciggies.

I think that this is one of those 'unique' acts like the guy that swallows and then regurgitates the goldfish (no offence to our own Goldfish  ).

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

It's not a trick it's a stunt and it's a stupid one.

Tom Mullica made it famous and it was most likely him you have seen doing it on Jack Dee's show which was on a few nights ago. If not you saw Pete Firman's performance on Dirty Tricks before xmas. Tom Mullica was an adviser for Pete and if my memory serves correctly Tom's advise was something along the lines of "don't do it".

There is no secret to it you just swallow the cigarettes! If you watch Tom do it he has about 20 cigs in his mouth at one point, I think Pete said he had only managed about 10.

None taken  . To be honest, even I would find it quite entertaining if somebody could regurgitate me.

Just to add my two pence to the equation, as Johndoe has already said the concept is Tom Mullica's and as Pete mentioned on another internet forum recently, Tom was an adviser for that routine. I think the actual number Pete managed was 5. For a bit of context, I've seen a recording of Mr Mullica doing 36!!

If you're interested in the technique, there is some information on Darwin's Encyclopedia of TT Magic.

My own experiments into this have resulted in burnt lips, gums and tongue. And that was using just one cigarette! Having said that, when I performed it (without burning myself!) I got a round of applause from everybody in the bar.

However, it's not something I'd suggest you try. The negatives definately outweigh the positives.

All the best,

Will Wood

I suppose it's one good alternative to Senokotfor shaking up the insides...

I know - I couldn't believe there was a website about it, either.

You can always do the ungimmicked cigarette up nose. A good place to learn this and a lot of great magic (and invaluable info on being a better performer) is Eugene Burgers Mastering the Art of Magic

Tom's entire cig act is available on his cigarette magic videos. Most dealers will be able to get these for you.
