New to magic and don't know where to start

Postby sacredbunny246 » Feb 26th, '06, 01:26

I am very interested in doing magic, but I do not know where to start, what I need, or anything really. I haven't been able to find any magic shops in my area and I'm always leary of those "Learn Magic" books and ready made kits. What should I do?

Spend some time looking around specifically for video posts and make a list of the ones that particularly interst you. Don't worry too much about the difficulty level just yet and try a lot of different web sites.

Make a list of what you've liked, then search for the reviews. Seeing tricks is often a better way of finding out where to begin than just reading about them.

If you find that the majority on your 'liked' list are cards, or coins for that matter, then you've found your starting point. Then look for the easy way into that line of magic with some DVD's, books and self workers.

It's important in your early stages to not over complicate your tricks and to maintain a level where you're making good progress which should keep you interested. As well as building up your skill you will also be building up your confidence.

There are three books you should buy to start:

Scarne on Card Tricks
Modern Coin Magic
Royal Road to Card Magic

These will have you set for the rest of your life!

If I were you, I would introduce myself to the others here in the introduction forum in TM. Then somebody sees what you are interested in and I'm sure will help you out with tips and good advice! :P
