Hello,
Nice to meet everybody. I really enjoy reading all of your opinions and advice on different issues.
I am, as you probably can figure out, a new member. I would like to give a brief autobiography of myself.
I grew up in the Los Angeles Area. I actually got into magic, in a weird way. I was at a dinner table with my parents and some adults I did not know. One of them happened to be a magician. He looked mysteriously at my hands and then me. After a few seconds, he spilled it out and said to me,
"You've got some big hands there."
I replied, "Ummm sure."
After explaining to me how he has been doing card magic for years, he considered that I should get into magic, for I do have big hands. He showed me how I have an advantage, and using the cards would be easy for me.
The only thing I knew about cards at the time, were the simple gambling games, such as blackjack, hold'em, solitaire, etc. You know the common ones.
I asked him to show me how to do one card trick. He said no. I ask why. He then said the first thing you must know about magic, is never to tell the secret of the trick. I said I don’t want to know the secret I want to know how to do the trick, to learn. He said fine. He showed me the simplest trick in the world, but it was so effective.
For a couple of months I ignored magic, not caring much for it.
All of this sudden I decided I wanted to learn magic.
I googled magic shops in my area, and had my parents drive me down their. I met a man there who gave me recommendations on everything. We talked for a couple of hours. Finally I left the store with 2 packs of bicycle cards, and "The Royal Road to Card Magic."
I completed the book and felt confident in my technique. I practiced almost everyday, until I then went back and got some new books gimmicks, etc.
I found out that one of my friends was also into magic. We would talk at school teaching each other all the things we learned. Finally after practicing, my friend and I preformed these tricks, not only in front of our parents, but also to other people.
Now I am pretty experienced in all different types of close-up magic. I will continue to pursue both of my favorite hobbies, directing movies, and performing magic.
