Hi All,

OK, so i've read a load of threads and really like the site. I love magic but am a beginner. I know a fair few self working tricks and want to get better.

Working in the rat race and wanting to get out, what's the best way to start on the road to being a top magician.

Your advice is welcome, to what you think a newcomer like me should do.

My advice for the time being before you go and buy a DVD or trick is to go and buy a deck of Bicycle playing cards. IMO these are the best looking and easiest playing cards to perform with. They are also widly known and no one will doubt that they are fake, even if you are using a trick deck.

Get used to shuffling and dealing the cards, so you get a feel for them. Then i suggest maybe Born to Perform Card Magic form here... www.penguinmagic.com or a DVD for begginers from here... www.ellusionist.com.

The same idea with coins... get used to flipping and throwing them around to get a good idea of how they feel. It helps when it come to learning the actual sleights.

good advice from above. It takes years of hard work to make it to anywhere near to the top and to set you above the rest, you need that something extra.

To get good at anything you must practice...for a begginer in magic I suggest Crash Course 1+2 from Ellusionist.com if you like dvds. If you're more of a book guy like me then Royal Road To Card Magic or Encyclopedia of Card Tricks
