He may not be japanese. I can read hiragana and katakana japanese, and there are 3 different types of scripts. Katakana, (which is used in foreign names and business names. Linkin park uses their name in katakana) , hiragana (Which is used for everything else, along side kanji)
He may have a japanese last name, but his first name, Cero, is written in katakana. This means he is a foreigner, (Gaijin) and is not japanese. But I may be wrong....
セロ, or Sero, is his name in japanese, romanized.

Tabemono, written as 食べ物, or in hiragana... 【たべもの】
Means "Food" and is a very polite way to say it.
Nomimasu, means "Drink", when they asked him for a drink, he said "No.", "Iie", and then produced one himself.
