Palming coins

Postby Medeiros66 » Feb 26th, '06, 16:57

Hi.
I’m thinking about buying some palming coins, although I know I must work with current coins (euros, in this case).
Does anyone have experimented Nielsen’s? Or are there any others that fit better in hands?
Thank you.

Palming coins

Postby DrTodd » Feb 26th, '06, 21:13

Tudo bem? Acho que voce mora en Portugal, nao e? Visitei coimbra muitas vezes e gostei muito!!!!

I wouldn't bother with palming coins...unfortunately the Euro options are limited. I use half dollars, old english pennies, half-crowns, even Mongolian coins from the communist period....the point is that at some point in your magic career you will need to use whatever coins are available. I would not become over-dependent on palming coins.

when palming coins, I find it hard to get a good grip on them. This is even with using my spare hand to place the coin correctly in my palm :!:is it possible my hands are not fat enough?

Yes, I'm from Portugal - Azores (midle Atlantic islands).
Thans all of you for the tips. I'm reading Bobo's. I'm practicing with 30mm thin coins and I think this is a good size for me (28-32mm).
One of this days I'll post some pics of my palmings (if I have this permission :( )

In the demo,he used 50 cent pieces, kinda large. I guess the difficulty level would increase with smalled coins.

And,can your palm muscles be trained or do some people just have better suited (muscles)hands for palming?

Palming Coins

Postby Allen Tipton » Mar 7th, '06, 13:20

:) Jose. Peter Quinsee of Camtryx(Magic) Ltd,187, Gilbert Road, Cambridge, CB4 3PA, UK. Tel. 01223 356204 is an old established Mail Order only firm. He sells plain cut out polished stainless discs with serrated edges for a good grip. They are 32mm (1 1/4 inch) wide. A stack of 10 is only 8mm (3/10's inch) high. From a short distance they look like a large silver coins.

Option. Why not try finger palming instead. This is often easier and more deceptive than the classic palm. With practise you can move your fingers quite naturally.

I find smaller coins more difficult certainly - it always seems easier when I switch back to larger coins. This probably means smaller coins are better for harder training.

You can definitely improve your muscles by training. Good practice (for me anyway) seems to be based around

1) Palming a coin for hours at a time (while doing other things obviously)

2) palming stacks of smaller coins (4-8 coins depending on their thickness)

As you develop, you'll probably find that you need to squeeze less to hold the coins in place, this is partly because your hands are getting stronger, and partly because you are more used to the amount of pressure you need to secure a coin.

There's always some compression in the hand while palming, so don't worry not being able to get the hand flat, as long as it looks passably natural. Look at the position of your hands while at rest, and you'll probably see curling of the fingers and thumb in.

Thanks all of you for the tips.
Now I'm gonna wait for my palming coins and soon I'll let you know my opinion.
Best regards.
